Something came to my mind last night about the tags NKZ/NCZ.... More importantly the NKZ portion.
If someone was sitting on such a page and they decided they had had enough and wanted to end thier lives, would these tags prevent them from doing so?
I look forward to the input of others in regards to this.

Well if you think about it , its suicide not killing as in per-se' another person. But to this effect it would be considered a dishonorable way to go. So it should be up the owner to allow it or not I think.

a slave or FW if your going to go by the books would not be hopping onto a tarn. Nor would a slave be allowed to travel to the Sardar's.
The tags as defined are used to prevent death when 2 or more people are involved with an action. Which is why this thought came to mind. I would think someone that wished to kill themselves would not be stopped by the tags as we know them because it was an act upon the self not aimed at anyone else.
Also have to keep in mind for a person to move to a unsafe location they have to know of such and people have to have bothered to create them, not many are willing to build wilderness. Matter of fact far as I am aware at this point I am the only one that has created wilderness pages. Some have created traveling pages but they are still very few and far between.

Actually it is something I have pondered for a long time Sativa. My Gorean mother WitchBlade tried to kill herself on a "safe page" one night over 2 men that were fighting about her, she supposedly slit her throat. I showed up and in role play saved her from death but have wondered for the longest if in fact if it was right or wrong.
Then all the recent events of death of slaves and such, the discussion of what tags are for. Was just something I thought was worth throwing out for feedback see what others thought or felt.

in the role playing capacity on Gor , suicide was not a common event since Gor would not have had the stresses of earth and on gor life was revered.

The system of tagging rooms was concieved in order to control the online foolishness of fools, in essence the sterilizing serums would make a Gorean live longer and with less disease but in reality most Goreans died at a yound age because of the harshness of the world.

in essence placing tags on a page or Home is like reality for Gor, because each society hads its laws and magistates and such to carry out the laws to include dealing out punishment, it would not be very common for a person to come to a town and just kill someone of importance, not to say that im sure there were alot of paga tavern brawls and deaths, but the laws of the cities would have prevented alot of things from happening.

perhaps when one chooses a caste, race and place to live one can research the counter earth race to understand what there laws and ways would have been, for instance if one chooses to be of Ar , then one might want to research the roman empire at its peak to understand how to be truly of Ar, or if one was of the red savages,, then perhaps a research of the Native American Plains tribes.

I beg to differ at the length of the life of most Goreans. I have read 18 of the books to date and in none of them was I given the impression Goreans lived anything but long lives.
The placing of tags, to me at least, makes the role play more realistic. It represents the non player characters that would be found present. However I often have to wonder if a guard could be in every place at once and if something a lesser person, someone not of importance, did to themselves would be quickly noted and prevented.
As for the suicides, Mr. Norman never wrote of these occuring within the books, so it is a grey area. Human nature is human nature and as such I am sure they did occur. Stress or no the human is subject to depression and I am sure it occured on Gor just as it does on Earth.
In chat the effects are either death by ones own hand or taking a trip to the Sardars, or taking a silver/black ship off world. (Which if we have read the books we all know clearly didn't occur as often as we read of it occuring in chat.)
This however deviates from the original question, which was in a nutshell, would tags prevent self infliction of mortal wounds.

~chuckles~ Is ok Sativa, I had to go back and read through the thread to catch what you meant and who you had aimed it at.
My error tho did give light to what made me think about the tags in this way and it has opened this up to a more interesting discussion I would think.
I wish you well,

Beast,
I have been off line for awhile and thus the late reply but wanted to say something on this.

Originally the tags were to represent guards that most Goreans had to protect them and the people within the Home or Town. With this in mind, I dont think a suicide would be allowed to happen unless they had been paid off by the person..that is a stretch at best but could have happened. So many have forgotten the original reasons for the tags.

Tal Beast, a quick reply to pages void of NKZ/NCZ, I am in the process of completing a series of pages that are per se, you go there, enter the forest you take your chances and accept the outcome. When completed the link will be posted for those interested

TAL all
If in force they are there then it would be null and void to kill one'self better to have some one kill you then their is the use poisons such as Ost bite or kanda paste go into the forest and kill yourself or better pay a Assassin for price they will kill anyone its not the act its the price once set on a price its done quickly. getting silly on this board again.

Not that i know enough to get involved much but i saw this passage of info "Psychiatrists and psychologists may not exist on Gor as most people seem quite content with their lot in life. They freely accept the Caste system and the institution of slavery. Most Goreans are very well adjusted. Overall, Goreans lead healthier lives than Earth people."

Beast-
According to the books Gor is about Honor. Self Mutilation or Suicide on a NCZ/NKZ page would be considered Dishonorable to the Owner,Homestone, and themselves. Now Yes I realize that not many on an individual basis care of the paramiters of Honor for Themselves. However, In even in basic R/L it is considered the easy way out for one who could not handle it. Gor is far from a Stress-Free environment, but for those it becomes to overwheling for should do the proper thing. Being a Free, just leave or take a break. Go on a trip for a bit. Especially for a slave beg release. For the fact that suicide for a slave brings dishonor to more than just herself. It creates a bitter taste for her Owner, the HS she resides at, and it's members. But then again that's just My opinions of the situation. And You of all know what they say about opinions Beast. -smirks-
