well if the character has his symbol/logo on the back of his costume you could have him with his back to the reader, which would keep his face hidden.

It actually doesnt wear a costume. He's all fleshy all over. Kinda gross but that's how he looks.
I need to add a little marketing muscle to this title just incase, but not make it look like another sellout book.

Anywho, I think I have an idea now.

BTW... where did everyone go? It got quiet around here all of a sudden.

Sorry man,
I'm just now getting back to this thread and I have to say that the cover concept looks very interesting.

I wish I could give you some advice on the writing end, but I have nothing to offer ya on that end.

From the sounds of this concept though, it sounds like you could be the Clive Barker of Comics. Most of his creations came from things that he was expereincing in nightmares.

Keep Pushing at it man. I know you can do it but more importantly you know you can do it.

Man, this is proving to be a huge challenge. Well, I have 3 concepts for the first issue's cover. I also layed out about 75% of the pages and am currently writing in the story.
I really want this to stand out as cool as possible. So it's not going to be drawn completely in a realistic fashion but it will have some ground on realism when the story calls for it.

You guys remember The Maxx? How sometimes it went wacky, then killed in the next pages?

Well this book will have something of that sort except a bit more strange rather than wacky.
I'm always thinking MTV Oddities when Im working on this. I dont want this to be like every other comic out there. My last fear is how I will do the finishes. Im drawing like Ive never drawn before. Less stiff and more emotional.
Its weird because when i get commisioned to do a batman or some other third party character, I draw them like my drawings on my site. Very oldschool Image meets today's styles.

Well.. thats my only update for now. Im dying to show you guys pics, but I have to hold back because I dont want to spoil it for you.
Nearly all my pics are spoilers.

Sorry about being quiet in this thread (especially considering I have a big mouth pretty much everyplace else )

I'm working on my own book right now. First issue written, 2nd and third pretty much "self written" (I was having a little trouble with my direction in the first issue, but once I hit stride, 2 and 3 pretty much formulated themselves).

I already have an idea on the first cover, but not sure how I want to approach it (hand colored via marker, or even colored pencil for a unique look, computer painted, traditionally painted/airbrushed, etc).

Starting this first issue is scary, guys. I finally laid out the first 3 pages.

I wanted ask for your opinions about my very first cover art, out of curiosity. Since its the very first "official" issue, I'm wondering wether I should show the main character on the front cover, or something more subtle but cool that doesn't show his face.

Its a tough decision because since Im an unknown artist, I felt that subtlelty would probably not work to the best of my book's benefit as a first issue.
But then, I also wanted to keep the character's face concealed until you crack the comic open within the 2nd or 3rd page.

.... Unless... if i can come up with something in between.... hmmm.. Damn first issues. Look what its doing to my head --> <img src=http://www.websmileys.com/sm/aliens/conehead.gif>

Just a thought, but why not use a silouette of your character. you know dark alley victim huge shadow casted....or like have him standing in front of a backlight so all you see is a figure. something dramatic that makes the reader say "Hmmm?....that looks interesting." Or just do the eyes all glowy(if he has glowy eyes). Im sure you've thought of those.

Yo Nar man, I just joined so pardon the interruption, but I'm picking up on exactly what you're talking about mentally. If I were you, which I'm not, I wouldn't approach this as a comic book. Break the rules and boundries. This project is obviously something that has been tearing at you to get out your entire life. Let it come out the way it wants to come out. If you don't want to show your character on the cover, then don't. The right images will come to you when they need to in a work like this. Don't worry about the words, the artwork, the layout. You have natural talent that will take over for you. Just let it all out man, seriously. The words will flow once you get it going. Let the images tell the story, and the words be the captions and thoughts behind those images. As a creator this is a once in a lifetime thing. It's pure and raw emotions streaming out from within the soul, coming from some unknown higher conciousness. Trust it, and trust yourself. In graff terms, you're just the finger holding down the cap, let it go where it wants to go. I hope this helps man. I'm looking forward to seeing where this path leads you.

Great words my friend. Thanks a lot for that. I think I will go with my first idea afterall and allow the rest to come out as it should in the order I originally felt them to come out. Thanks again!

I just finished reading this posting..
And I too have been working on writing a story, mainly because my artwork skills are not the best in the world, but I can see the scenes in my fragile mind and with that, I have slowly been putting the words to paper, any ideas I have written in as side notes and guidelines for the characters, characters that I have come to feel a great deal of passion for over the past few months.
So I can fully understand your dilemma .
Bringing your creations to life for all the world to see is not an easy task, especially when the passion for such work can lead to a very fragile mind set when it is first displayed for all to see.

Oh yeah totally man. Its no joke.
I've actually been working on this a couple of days ago. Im nearly done with my first issue. The first issue is extremely important. First impressions last a life time.
So its gotta be just right. The story itself is rather simple, but its complexity can last forever due to the fact that it is heavy on the human mind.

As emotional as some parts can be, I have to deliver a good composition. Its like a good tune.
A nice simple intro with attractive qualities. Then you pick up the beats or instrumental, or vocals, etc etc, then prepare the bridge into the real song and work your way into the climatic part where as you deliver a strong meaning to the entire thing. Then the finale coming to a nice, soft and fading end that I would hope would have the reader close the book and and hug it while thinking..."wow....".

If this can be achieved, then I've accomplished my goal to help me pitch a deal for a real good movie.
