Writing a Children's Story....
posted on: 11/26/2006 10:43:06 PM

So I was talking to Nar and how his creating his own comic has made me want to go out and do something.. so.. i think im going to write and illustrate a children's book.. whether it be too creepy for children or not.. im not sure yet..

but some ideas ive had for some story lines.. or random Morals to go by (for sake of children of growing and learning) ...
are this:
-Dont play with electricity
-Dont eat metal
-Dont be sad and have fun with toys
-Wacth out for stuff in the garage
-Monsters are your friends
-Fruit and Vegies make you healthy
-Dont do drugs or dont let drugs do you
-Winning fights makes you a loser

welp.. those are my potential ideas so far..
i may have some more and keep you updated.. or i may just scrap the moral idea all together and just make something entertaining.. haha

I definitely can't wait to see with what you come up with. And dont stress on how good the story or art should be. Just let yourself go.
Who cares about what anyone thinks. Have fun, create and control!
And we can make a special section for any production art in the V.I.P. room as well, unless youre fine with just sharing it here.

Napkins, I don't know how old you are, but back in my day (1800's) there was this comic called "Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children" That your idea reminds of sort of. Funny books in a dark way.

Wooo hoo.. i got some news.. i mean this is still in the brainstorming of what the book is about.. but.. i jsut talked to my freind.. who actually writes and me and him are gonna collab on this now.. (cuz i for one suck at writing)... but in no way this will affect or restrain my creative juices from flowing out my ass.... i think its gonna be better this way..

ive been thinking WAY WAY ahead of myself.. like how to sell.. and how to get it printed or whatnot.. printing prices seem to be pretty reasonable for my tastes.. but i just rememebred my uncle works for a printing company... heh heh.. so im gonna have to talk to him sometime.. but anyway.. thanks for the encouraging words fellas.. i hope to get started on this soon.. still brainstorming..

awesome! yes do it!! I love creepy kida stories!

when i was little my brothers and i would listen to a tape of Roald Dahl stories. He wrote James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the chocolate factory, The BFG.. etc... but he also wrote some pretty gruesome yet hilarious shite as well.

did any of you have the pleasure of listening to his: "Revolting Rhymes and Dirty Beasts" tape when you were little?

I like those ideas(titles) alot. It's a good idea to write a children's book. My mom has one inthe works. She wants me to illustrate it for her. I'm not really feeling it though.

I don't post here very often (sorry Nar!) but I happened to see this thread just now so I figured I'd chime! I think there's a lot of potential for the 'stuff in the garage' story. That's the one that jumped out at me the strongest anyhow.

Do you know how to make a book dummy to present to publishers? If not, shoot me an email, and I can help you get started with that (I've made a few).

Have you seen the Idiots Guide to Publishing Children's Books? The 3rd edition will be released in May. Here's a link to Amazon:

Hope this helps

Just read this and i think its great that we all think of kids while deep down inside we want to write that gory story about a person that kills everyone lol. I dont know about you but the one thing i loved as a kid was the writers and artists that actuelly took time to make a decent story for my age level and secretly i was learning in a fun way. Thats why i loved spiderman around 10 or so because i could relate to the cartoon and i still can relate to the more mature one of today.

I am also working on a cartoon that i want to be watchable by the whole family. It takes on a new way of looking at the comic book world but in a way it shows differnt views and stories that are buried underneath. I have 3 charecters each one can relate to a differnt group. Im also helping another person write a book to teach kids how to cook. All this while writing my own comic book lol.

Anyways i just wanted to tell you an idea. Maybe make a story or something with charecters in it and stick with it over a few years, slowly maturing the theme of the books as time goes to follow your age group. Spiderman almost did it and i loved it.

However do what makes you compfortable, whatever idea that comes out of your head write it down because you can interest a kid somewhere. Plus its not too hard to get a kid or something to tell you the hard truth lol. I honestly cant wait to see this book.
