replied on: 12/6/2007 5:30:05 PM dude i got it i love the art damn its the most awesome book out there art wise the story was ok, its the dialogue that got to me i hated the dialogue so much man but i forgave it because if the art and possible better story nothing like millar and hitch but im all for new stuff |

replied on: 12/10/2007 9:29:44 PM I think its the following WE are used to ultimates being like a blockbuster summer flick, with tons of special effects and action packed scenes This current story arc feels more like a cartoon than an actual blockbuster movie im not saying its a bad thing it just will take a few issues for me to get used to the art also makes me really dig it man so i cant wait to buy issue two |

replied on: 12/10/2007 11:42:47 PM I JUST GOT MY 2 COVER VARIANTS TODAY!!!!!  Mad hasn't lost his touch. And neither did his colorists! Gorgeous style and colors. Ive not read it yet. Im still working away at my W.W.H issues. I still have another set of two cover variants coming in the mail for Ultimates 3 so I can store deep in my closet like the pack rat that I am.  Im so happy that I am once again after many years, able to collect a nice small batch of comics I can be excited about like i was when i was a kid. Good stuff!

replied on: 12/11/2007 8:31:59 PM So Ive been rereading the comic and there are story elements that Im beginning to really enjoy. Spoilers Ahead for Those Who havent read: For instance did anyone notice the doctor at the end a certain Dr. Blake with a wooden cane? For people who dont know thats what Thor transforms into in the regular marvel universe dr. donald Blake who turns back into thor by hitting his wooden cane on the ground. Also Hawkeye says some suspicious comments about quicksilver and scarlet witch right before scarlet witch is shot with a bullet. The story is supposed to do with the brother hood of mutants so Im thinking perhaps Mystique has infiltrated the team to tear apart the Ultimates from the inside. There is some good story when I read in between the lines (im still annoyed by the dialog which feels disjointed to me.) But a few solid rereads proved to me that this issue packs a lot of intrigue that was actually subtle and clever. The art was amazing (still think an inker would make it even more spectacular) but I was reading this journal entry by the colorist of Ultimates 3 whos work I love (heres the link Journal) Who I happen to strongly agree with (especially after seeing the pages digitally previewed) does anyone else feel the colors were printed out too dark and muddy it takes a lot of the quality away from the line if you look at the colorist's gallery in the link I provided youll notice how much more clear the colors are I hope the printing improves. I still loved the art but the colors were a bit muddy and if you look at the pencils at joemadfan.com its a shame his pencils are tighter than ever! Seriously check the pencils A. Cause they rock. B. You see some of the line quality that the muddy printing covers up. After seeing the colors on the computer I dont feel it is at all the colorists fault for the muddy parts in the comic I think this is some kind of printing error (maybe all the effort went into printing the ultra glossy covers which look phenomenal who knows) I hope I dont sound like im some whiney fan boy because I did enjoy the comic and LOVED the art work but the dialog and muddy printing really bothered me. I cant wait till the next issue now that I understand better this issue Mad ranks as one of my all time favorite artists its great to have him back. |

replied on: 12/13/2007 3:51:53 PM interesting points man Ultimates 3 has to do with the ULTIMATUM story line and its about the end of the ultimate universe or so thats what they are advertising now if you were reading Ultimate power, you sort of see that heroes from the different universes are coming together Could it be that regular marvel universe's Thor (Dr Donnald Blake) has made his way to the ultimate universe? Thor in the ultimates does not have a secret identity could this mean some sort of invasion of regular marvel heroes to stop ultimate marvel characters (they arent exactly good guys) hahahah who knows but i cant wait |

I wasn't really thinking about why there might be a Donald Blake in the Ultimate Universe, but Ultimate Power may be that reason. That connection never went off in my head. Nice catch Phantro. Thats really cool that all of these stories are connected. Another thing that may lead to Ultimatum is that (and this is what was happening in Ultimate Power) when there were two of the same being from different universes occupying the same universe (like the squadron supreme and the other version of them) it started to really screw with reality. |

replied on: 12/14/2007 12:30:24 AM yes you are right squadron supreme began to repeat each others sentences and their powers decreased by half so who knows man now i do honestly believe that regular marvel characters would be able to beat ultimate versions of themselves... call it nostalgia, but i think marvel Avengers have more experience and are more cohesive as a team than the ultimates have ever been i do believe the blond chick might be mystique. we shall see |

Avengers definitely have a lot more experience, but from what Ive read it seems to me that the Ultimates have more in the power department and they arewilling to kill something the regular avengers would not. By blonde chic do you mean valkyrie? I dont think shes mystique because she was actually in the book in Ultimates 2 in the defenders issue (except she didnt have powers then) If any one is mystique I think it would be someone who is new to the team or hawkeye (who I dont necessarily think is mystique but he does seem suspicious or at least dangerous) |

replied on: 12/17/2007 3:05:52 PM The art in this comic is excellent. But I have to toss my two negative cents about the content in this book. The first page already turned me off and the subject matter was completely off key for a Marvel book. I mean, theres a panel where Tony Stark is about to get head. Totally destroying anything I remember about Iron Man. After reading a few more pages, i decided to stop because I was really hating the comic book and I bought doubles of both covers which Im feeling sorry I did. The art doesnt change. It looks great. But the read really hit rock bottom for a Jeph Loeb book. Everything is so darn typical and predictable. meh. Not for me. So far, the only comics I find worth reading, are the World War Hulk issues. |

Strazinsky of babylon 5) that is being published currently. all are awesome books man |

replied on: 12/17/2007 5:20:21 PM I agree with you Nar I didn't like the sex scene either it wasnt needed at all. If it had some purpose to the story or had it been handled better it may have been better, but I think they sort of threw it in there to be "extreme" or something. It was uncalled for, but still the issue wasn't all bad. Ultimate Power is pretty good love Land's art, Ultimates 1 and 2 are some of the best comics I have ever read. Ultimate Galactus was a really cool story I liked how they stopped it. If your into cosmic super heroics like I am I suggest you flag down the original Annihilation storyline. Its mind blowingly good. The sequel, Annihilation Conquest is pretty damn good as well (but not as good as the original.) |

replied on: 12/17/2007 8:21:03 PM yeah i agree anihilation was amazing i think ultimates 3 has issues that deal with morality, thus the sex scene and the whole brother and sister romance, and hank overdosing. just like the previous runs were more like a political satire. the thing i have about ultimates 3 is that it does not feel like an ultimate book yet all the ultimate books have a "Big Budget summer movie" feel to it, and this one does not yet at least so im not sure im buying it mostly for the art honestly so we shall see |
