River, Inara and Kaylee from Firefly. That marks the end of my current full priced commissions. Now I have over 55 half price cards to draw... 200 MM08 cards and 100 Indiana Jones 4 cards.!!!

replied on: 3/24/2008 1:46:59 PM  Ah shucks yall... thanks for noticing  I have improved a lot, but I think its pretty much because of practice (Women of Marvel), more attention to problem areas (like eyes, KO! helped me with that one), more attention to my line (doing everything I can to not make the drawing look stiff) AND my secret weapon!! Specific pose reference!! I filmed myself for WOM and saved snapshots to work from. I didnt use them all cause I came up REALLY short on the cards... so Ive been using the poses for my commissions. Not all the time, but when I dont have screen shots of an actor/trice in a good pose, it helps a lot. I dont have to guess anatomy cause its right there in front of me! Here are two pics Ive used recently for WW and Starfire. I've edited the pics cause I dont wear much in order to see as much skin as I can... and my boyfriend would kill me if I posted the original pics. In my mind a unicoloured nonseethrough bra is exactly like a bathing suit top, but whatever...   Obviously, I have to add on some pounds in the chest area, which isnt that easy actually. When you aint got big boobs, its hard to figure where they'd go, how they'd look in certain poses. Anywho, thats pretty much it boys. No miracle, just more conscious drawing and using specific ref. Thanks a lot for the awesome comments though. EDIT: I forgot to say that for the penciling stage Ive actually started sketching the pose in my sketchbook first, to figure out the kinks before I hit the card. It helps to draw the pose without being tied down by the size of the paper, and it also helps to keep the card clean (less erasing).

replied on: 3/27/2008 12:00:15 PM Remember that scans always smooth out stuff like that a bit... but when I was showing it to my boyfriend, I did comment on how it almost looked like a sticker I use copic pens now... but I've gone through microns as well... so far, I really like the copics, but Im curious to try out the kind Nar has always used. Can't think of the name just now... but its in his process post. I'm still having trouble with the shakes though... It doesnt show on the cards so much, cause when you ink with such small sized pens 0.1, 0.05, 0.03, its pretty easy to flatten out the shakes by going over it with a larger size.... not so obvious when youre drawing the face details, though. No one likes to see shaky eyes!
