replied on: 3/27/2008 1:26:06 PM how about the line weights? Like the elbow is thicker then the sleeve. Does that come from the pen or did you go over it twice? And what did KO tell you about eyes!! I love the way KO does eyes... spill the goods Kate LOL xD |

replied on: 3/27/2008 1:56:06 PM Its definitely an impressive card. As a matter of fact, I've recently purchased Disney's Aladddin on dvd and have been watching the making of the animation over and over. This card Kate did, completely resembles the top notch animation art quality right down to the sketch layout itself. They even mentioned how they began to really pay attention to "line variations" or what i call line weights. After drawing the cleaner sketch version of the animation sequence, they pass it over to the cleaning house in which other artists go over the sketched work with clean lines. Then they go over it once more adding all the line weights in specific parts of the drawing to add depth. I was really impressed. Though I'm no Disney fan (since Walt Disney passed away, I've hated the new management and ridiculous prices for theme park tickets, people actually dying constantly on their shoddy rides etc). But yes anyways, great work indeed Kate. |

replied on: 3/27/2008 1:57:06 PM I go over the areas I need to be thicker. Im sure theres a way to control line thickness with one pen mouvement, but I dont know what it is! Oh Smacks... I too wish I could draw eyes like KO. They're so beautiful. But unfortunately, the help he gave me was to improve my own work as opposed to helping me mimic his own We didnt get into much. But the first thing he did was simply point out that my eyes need work, which makes me focus on them more. Then he said to remember that both eyes will always look in the exact same direction, no matter the angle of the face. He said it himself, it sounds obvious, but is actually very easy to get wrong. Sorry I couldnt crack the KO "golden eye egg of talent"... so sorry... BTW, what did you think of my process explanation? Does what I wrote make sense vs my skills getting a bit better? |

replied on: 5/23/2008 9:53:01 PM Love the sketch cards Kate. The way your working it amazes me. I also have a suggestion. You should try to get a hold of a program called poser. Its a really cool 3d program where you can set up poses, angles, perspective, and you can adjust boob size on the model |

replied on: 5/25/2008 10:01:30 AM HAHA I don't think Joe was contesting the size of boobies, just suggesting a new method to help with posing. I'll definitely have a look. Sounds very practical. The line between using as reference and copying is rather thin, but you (joe) and I shouldn't have too much trouble with that line. Especially since your style is so damn unique! A pose is a pose, bro. Remember, there are a LOT of humans of earth, taking an unimaginable number of poses every single day. If the pose is physically posible, then its been done and done and done by millions of humans... its how you draw that pose that makes it yours or not. Bone position is one thing, lines are another. And thanks a lot for the |
