replied on: 3/29/2008 12:53:14 PM I know of a few Narnians who are going to need new underwear after seeing these cards!! I've commented on some of these before, but damn, they're just so.... so.... KO!! ya know?? The soft pencil hatching, the gorgeous eyes, the intense body poses, the mouvement in the hair/fire, the awesome action lines.... its all you baby! If I had to, HAD to pick a fav.... I think Id have to say... yup, Ironman. Then Carnage... then that dude with the star on his helmet (cant remember his name)... Brilliant work Keith. Was it a relief to get the OK from Marvel?? EDIT: What's with the (-L) on certain cards?? Is it a hint that someone else helped with the concept, or something?? |

Surfing: thanks man, the Nova I kind of paid a bit of homage to Granov, just the pose idea, it's not even close to good as the original. Nar: tell MJ to send you some Hanes. Thanks though, I wish I could keep the Venom one. Red: Thanks ma- I mean uh ma'am! uhm, the "-L" is from when I showed these to someone, he did a draw-over and showed me everything wrong with how I did the characrer(s). So I re-drew them loosely following his guide. Wouldn't have seemed right to me to just not credit him somehow. |

Yeah I was told to spray fix them before I even got the package, but I think I'll do 2 coats just to be safe. Marvel is dropping artists on the set like crazy (so far I'm the first and *only* artist who had all 100 of my cards approved, and I've seen artists who I consider my superiors being dropped from the set). Well, there was a lot of speculation as to why, and one of the reasons might be the time frame. Marvel is calling it "quality control", but some of us think it had to do with the several week delay in getting blanks out, but UD and Marvel not wanting to adjust the printing/shipping schedule for the set, so the sooner you get them done, and get them all approved, the better (because some of the pieces from dropped artists are being used, but the dropped artists aren't getting any proofs back). |

That's horrible people are getting dropped after all the hassle it took to send the blanks and stuff. I got in touch with Mark Irwin this week, and when I asked about the deadline (cause all ive heard so far has been "mid to late April") He said that the end of April is good with them. So I doubt timeframe is the reason people are getting dropped. I think it really is a question of quality control... but of course, that is subject to the editors personal opinion. So maybe those artists you think are better then you Mark, just arent what this guy wants on the set. Im really gonna stick to trying to produce the best possible artwork I can and let go of my silly concepts for this set. Its a shame, but thats life for ya. |
