For all the Mortal Kombat news. Dont worry, its a youtube vid but not a rick roll.  TMK Talks about MK vs DC sigh...mortal kombat vs DC Universe.. why Boon?? We were promised a darker grittier MK title.

Magic just feels like a cheap lame excuse instead of forming an intelligent thought or idea. MAgic can work for things it just needs principles behind it, not I can do whatever I want now because its magic. I also hate the use of magic in this game because when you think about it it puts a handicap on the mk fighters. Granted no ones as physically strong as superman there are ways around it like sub zero being able to freeze then decapitate superman. Of course that would be a M rated game which makes mortal kombat an unique fighter but damages the image of DC if their icons are ripping off skulls so no M rating sounds like their watering down the MK gameplay we all know and love. And of course the most obvious of my list of complaints this game sounds GIMMICKY rather than a cool fresh idea. I think the reason marvel vs. capcom works is because their characters are very similar in their art style and tone. And the only DC character who seems like they could fit in with the tone of a MK game is batman (the dark knight) but then again he doesnt kill people. I'll be honest though it doesnt sound all bad upon watching that video the new gameplay mechanic of them hitting each other while falling does sound epic. It does sound like they are trying new stuff and destructible objects do sound like a cool new addition to mortal kombat but I wish theyd be less gimmicky. And to be completely honest if the gameplay does somehow turn out to be amazing then Id buy it because thats what a game is really about not some gimmick to get people to buy it. |

replied on: 4/24/2008 10:56:26 AM Totally agreed. Magic is always the easy way out of tough explanations. I would have never have done this to begin with. All we wanted was a retelling of the MK mytholgy. The difference between MK and Street Fighter is that MK can totally play like an RPG of its own and has with games like Sub Zero Mythologies and the better known Shaolin Monks as well as the mini yet large games in Deception and Armageddon, Konquest mode. I was loving MK games because of the depth of story and not so much for the fighter platform. It was just in a league of its own and Ed Boon blew it just to quench his wet dreams of having Batman and Superman next to his co-creations. |
