Repairing Game CDs!!! Help..
posted on: 5/13/2008 12:27:07 AM

Hi guys. I was just wondering if anyone here knew of a good effective way to repair a PS2 game CD?

Ive tried conventional products (cheap stuff), and it didnt really work.

Then I used Crystal Clear acrylic/plastic polish and it made the CD look brand new but when I popped it in, the system said it wasnt a ps2 cd (that annoying red default message). I figured the acrylic polish left behind a film that makes plastic shine more and comprimised the CD.

So i cleaned it up, then tried using Toothpaste. Its currently being left for about 5 minutes.

If that doesnt work, I really dont want to have to buy a new replacement.
The scratches on the CD are barely even visible!
Like literally nothing.

The game itself played fine a while ago but it would constantly stop and load at weird parts of the game.

Which game am I talking about? Need For Speed Most Wanted.
And the game would pause to load during the race!
I know that cant be part of the game's mechanics because how odd would that be that while your racing through streets, it would pause and show me the "loading" message on the right side of the game screen???

Anywho, any help would be appreciated.

you dont like to burn PS2 games? its easy to do....and it only costs 20bucks to get the supplies you need....anyways....you could always take it to a gamestop and they do it. Or, if you have any friends that work at a BlockBuster or HollyWood Video, they can resurface it for you and that will work.

Considering how you're on your third method attempt to restore the disc, I'd say the disc itself is a lost cause (even if you could find a workable method, you may have already done irreparable damage to the disc).

Btw, ever get toothpaste on a dark shirt, and discover it has a bleaching affect? Yeah, that's not good for a disc, either

look up "swap magic with case mod"....if you dont like to copy games cuz its like stealing, you dont have to steal games, just make backups of what you have already for just in case something like this happens

No thats cool man.

Thats not going to solve my current issue here but i appreciate the reference.

All my games are in excellent condition and have been for many years since i dont abuse them. Except this one which i bought used. <_< biggest mistake ever.

I was hoping for a sure shot way of fixing my issue without having to buy expensive equipment.
But I will go to gamestop and ask them to try and fix it. If that doesnt work, im trashing it (14.00 down the trash F-CK!) and buy a new one.

Actually, right now, Im so pissed, I dont want to buy it anymore.
Actually, I just want to take my sledge hammer and destroy all my games and system.
And scream hardcore profanity while at it.

But of course I wont.

Anyways, forget it. Im just very upset.

all sales are final on used games.

Im sure they tested it and it did work but it had that constant loading crap in the middle of races which they probably didnt notice.

Oh, heres the unfortunate part though.. I didnt actually buy it at game stop. I got it at game quest. And behind their reciepts, in big bold letters, it says "all sales are final on used games."

Plus, the fact that I tried my hand at fixing it, prooobably wasnt a good idea.

But no worries. I just purchased Need For Speed Most Wanted for Gamecube instead. I head it had better frame rates than the PS2.

Yeah I was online looking at specs and was surprised what they could do with a smaller disk.

I also bought Batman Begins and Viewtiful Joe.
