The original 3 films all succeeded in capturing my imagination and inspiring me. I am not one of those people who puts nostalgia on a pedestal for their beloved characters (hence why I wasnt hyping Speed Racer at all I saw that last week by the way and loved it, that was friggin awesome) but I wasnt one of the many people who already declared hatred for the next Indiana Jones movie saying that it could never live up. I was looking forward to it, confident that it would do the franchise justice. So last night I went to the midnight showing of Indiana Jones and I have some really mixed feelings on it. the action scenes and special effects were... Seriously the effects and action were beautiful and captured the tone of the past movies. The plot on the other hand... Garbage. I dont want to spoil it for you because maybe if you see it in context you may dig it but its almost silly when the concept of the movie is revealed and feels really cut off from the past films and you can tell Spielberg/Lucas were really going for nostalgia with this one with easter eggs in the film and cast members from past films. So why make a plot that doesnt fit the tone at all and generally sounds silly? Another problem I have with the movie was Shia Lebouf his character is supposed to come off as tough. Now I liked him in Transformers because his character was a goofy funny guy, but he seems like hes not suited at all for the role he plays in this film. Overall, the movie does have a lot of fun in it with some great action scenes, but when you think about the plot it leaves a bad after taste. Just seeing Indy back in action though I think makes the movie worth seeing and there are some funny parts. I just keep thinking though in regards of the plot who read the script and thought "hey this is a great idea! this doesnt sound dumb at all heres a billion dollars go make this film!" I did like the movie but the plot keeps it from being a classic like the others. |

replied on: 5/22/2008 1:02:20 PM I still want to see this, but my friend, who's as die hard a fan as you can get, even said he didn't like it. I'm going to chalk it up to one thing: George ruined it. Simple as that. Spielberg had a script (I forgot who wrote it offhand) that he was ecstatic about, but George said, "um... nah" and then took it himself for a year to fix up. George is a good idea man, but he SUCKS as a writer. The best Star Wars movies were NOT written by him, the worst ones WERE. He doesn't know (or doesn't care) about his limitations, and that is why his smudgy fingerprints are all over Indy 4, and why people are going to start saying they should have stopped at 3... |

replied on: 5/22/2008 5:16:45 PM I really want to see this movie badly. The only good movie ive seen so far was Ironman so im hoping Indi doesnt become speed racer, sorry i didnt like it lol. However the ony thing ive heard so far is the ending sucked, no one ruined it for me, but they keep saying the ending ruined everything. Well being a Speilberg film i expect that lol because he always does that, he is a good movie maker dont get me wrong, but he cant end his movies. Along with that people are comparing it to past Indi films and this is like Spiderman 3. The others were kickass and are hard to live up to so saying they dont live up is not always bad, its still a very good movie. Im still wanting to see it even though people have mixed feelings because its Indian Jones and my favorite Harrison Ford, i got to see this. |

replied on: 5/24/2008 8:54:43 AM you wont believe me but i have never seen a complete indiana jones movie i have seen bits and pieces of all three over the years. know pretty much what they are about but never watched a full movie perhaps if i go watch this i might like it because i don't have anything else to compare it too. I am not too hard to please when it comes to movies... i have accepted the fact that the older i get the more "Been there seen That" mentality sets in. its hard to get a kick out of movies when you have seen so many where similar things have happened before. My last bunch of WHOA movies honestly were The Matrix, perhaps Equilibrium or V for Vendetta. 300 also was pretty sweet. and about the nostalgia factor... damn it worked for me in speed racer loved that movie |

replied on: 5/26/2008 12:42:05 PM I saw it finally yesterday and im sorry to anyone that said it was a bad movie but it was awsome lol. I loved it because it was a movie that had you follow clues to figure out along with indiana jones and had alot of twists that related to past movies etc...Not only that but it had the most amazing camera shots ive ever seen and being a movie maker that blew me away. It reminded me of National Treasure, another of my favorites so far this year, just in its own indana jones way. The movie was also filled with the classic funny comments and funny parts, especially when they are stuck in the mush lol. The problems i had with the movie was it wasnt indiana jones. I mean my favorite indiana had you walking through caves and all this cool stuff about the classic indiana jones, this one wasnt like that. Then the whole aliens things was kinda lame, i mean they could of made it seem like aliens then in the end make it seem like some ancient artifact and it would of been alot better, but aliens can have you say anything and "o its related to aliens" etc...Hmm a rock that must be aliens. and thats preaty much what they did. The last scene was awsome with the aliens taking off and such, just awsome, but i didnt like how it was aliens. The middle of the movie led away from the whole aliens theme by making it classic indiana jones but then they end up at the final destination and back we go. Then i dont know why everyone is complaining about the ending? I mean speilberg is known for ad endings but this one was ok. I mean yea the aliens just up and leave but other than the abrupt end it was still kinda cool. I think its because the kid almost puts on the hat? Along with that im sorry to say it but shia labuff is not the right actor for his role. I mean i think he is an amazing actor, yes im a fan of his, but he just didnt fit the role. It wasnt supposed to be a tough biker it was supposed to be a kid acting tough, and while he was doing ok at it, it just wasnt belivable. Still did great in the movie. Overall not the best Indy but man was it a good movie. I give it a 8/10. The thing is the past Indy films were out of this world so its hard to match up, but its still going to gave the rest of the summer films a hard time. Still waiting for The Dark Knight though! |
