Last year I was just an average fan, until December. I found Michael Palin's fan mail address and sent a letter to him. The next month I recieved what I was hoping to, but not expecting to, a signed photograph. When i got the envelope, I was puzzled as to why I was getting something from the United Kingdom. When I opened it, my life changed.

I can't really describe what I wrote, I just kinda talked about how I got into Monty Python and why I admire him so much, I closed it with asking for a signed photograph. It felt odd asking for one, but I'm glad I did. It looks so nice every time I walk in the room and see it on my book case.

He was going to be performing near me, but it was cancelled at the last minute and the only other place I could see him was in NY City. I had school and I didn't have time to take the train to the city, so I didn't get to see him. My friend Marie got to see him in Chicago though, and she said I could write a letter to him, email it to her and she'd give it to him. I don't know how long I sat there, thinking of what I could say so that it didn't sound stupid. I just ended up writing something short, like I'm a big fan of his and I think he's very talented and funny. I told him I had a site devoted to him and Michael; I almost hope he hasn't seen it, he'd probably be shaking his head at how obsessive some of the stuff is here, lol. I never got anything from him, though. Marie gave the letter to him but I guess he was just too busy to reply. I guess I could write something similar to Mike (but I don't think I'll tell him about this site though!).

I didn't recieve an answer until late January, that is why it surprised me even more, because I had sort of given up on it. What's funny is some friends and I had a debate on what he wrote on the picture. We have decided it does say "Ni!" with the quotes and all. What was really nice was that he personally signed it to me. (sigh)

A few years ago I sent a payment there (for an eBay auction) in a regular envelope like that and it cost around 83 cents...something like that. Or maybe I just have a bad memory, lol.
