I think they need to talk to the UN about this. If Bush is fair-dinkum that he is about change for the good and not just after Iraqi Oil, as many claimed over Iraq, he must act on Liberia. It appears both the UN and many of the nations who opposed the Iraqi action would welcome US leadership in this situation. Not only do they have the opportunity to show they are not after oil they also have the opportunity to re-unite a divided UN security council.

Just my 2 cents,

I agree with Nuisance, Bush must act to show that the US isn't and wasn't just after Oil in the iraqi conflict.

I think they should send in peace keepers, rather than seek the opinions of the UN.. I mean, the UN proved to be pretty much usless after Iraq.

But do you think that is of their own doings? Barring armed resistence, the United Nations couldn't do much to stop the U.S. after they broke the rules.

I place more blame on the bluntness of the American approach.

no offense, but why should america really care what you think on that issue? cmon lets be fucking realistic, the american government is going to do what that think is best for the american people (subversive political agendas aside) unilaterally if they have to.

dont get me wrong, i think it is great to have an objective disscussion about this issue. lets just not turn it into blind "america bashing". maybe you should have entitled this thread "What should the international community do regarding Liberia?" so, as a canadian, what do you think canada should do?

I would have to agree with Sub here, why does everything have to be what should the U.S. do.

If the events occuring in Liberia are so bad why has Canada, France, Germany, Russia, China etc etc not done something about it. By waiting on the US to (re)act they are enforcing the notion that the US is the worlds policeman and by waiting for them to take control of the situation they seem to be accepting that the US has now become the defacto UN and the real UN is irrelavent.
