How would you rate the outcome of the Iraq war?
replied on: 7/9/2003 9:53:01 AM I was really tempted to select your last option but I figured that'd be too much. Okay, the war was not a complete failure. Sure, they came in, took out "strategic targets" and pushed over big ol' Saddam. But, I've read articles about post-war conditions. People have had to wait for upwards of 4 days for small amounts of oil from pump stations. This when the U.S. claimed that they would bring the oil back to the Iraqi people. Secondly, the lop sidedness of the lost lives doesn't indicate substantial consideration for the welfare of Iraqi civilians. We've all seen the pictures of burned out car, dead bodies grasping white flags or of that young boy who lost his mother, father, 2 sisters, one brother, Aunt, Uncle and cousin in the war. Not to mention all of his limbs. Personally, I view it as more of an attack, than a war. I disagree with all this pre-emptive junk. The effectiveness of the war is also in due question. I mean, in Afghanistan, they subdued to the presence of Taliban-esque activity. But it is still there. Similarily, they have not erased Saddam's docterine in Iraq. Again, we must return to the purpose of the war as presented to the U.N. Security Council. Find weapons of mass destruction. <FAILED> Erradicate weapons of mass destruction. <FAILED> Dethrone/Kill Saddam Hussein. <FAILED> Decrease state of terrorism. <FAILED> Increase hostilities and embarrass the U.S. people in the international eye. <SUCCESS> I think you get my point! |

How would you rate the outcome of the Iraq war?
replied on: 7/9/2003 8:50:20 PM I was tempted to chose "A Victory, but the US has made some Mistakes" Mainly because the Iraqi ppl were liberated from a brutal dictatorship, and Saddam was overthrown. However as you pointed out Gage, the Post war conditions are terrible, not only have what the US promised to the ppl not been fulfilled, i think also the fact that the media (well im only speaking from AUST. media) that coveraged has almost stopped, yet it is clear there is still fighting occuring! Its hard to say it was a success when everything is put into poportion, but Saddam was overthrown <SUCCESS> |

How would you rate the outcome of the Iraq war?
replied on: 7/9/2003 11:37:31 PM The media (and the average American) only cares about bombs and glory. Frig, their national anthem is so very fitting. They show little regard for the improvement of Iraq and the optimization of the skills or potential of the Iraqi people. Boo hoo Lynch. Boo hoo, we lost twelve and a half soldiers, a couple funny Brits and a crate of vasoline. The general voice of America through the average civilian and the media is that there is no human side of war. We need a war fought on American soil. (And... I don't wanna hear any 9/11 bull!) |

How would you rate the outcome of the Iraq war?
replied on: 7/10/2003 1:35:24 AM well, that isnt how i feel, i deeply care about the humanitarian issue in Iraq. personally i think the u.s. totally failed in that area. it is a disgrace. alot of americans care about that and 35% didnt support the war 3 months ago. i can asure you that number is much higher today. hey gage. want a war on american soil? why doesnt canada invade the u.s.? oh wait, you have the most pussy army in the entire world. honestly, i would never want a war with canada, but when you say "america needs a war in its borders" it makes me wonder if you have the balls to back that up. you dont. my father is from canada, my cousin lives in canada and overall they are great people. i just wish you would can the rehtoric gage, it is counter productive. i think it is fair to criticize the u.s., but i dont understand your comments. do you want the war of 1812 all over again? gage your too damn emotional; like a fucking 16 year old girl after her first break up. |

How would you rate the outcome of the Iraq war?
replied on: 7/10/2003 9:29:31 AM Haha. Who won the War of 1812? Hull invaded Queenston Heights, wandered around a bit and retreated with his unorganized troops back to Detroit. Sir Isaac Brock and Tecumseth made Hull surrender Fort Detroit without a shot fired. Complete capitulation. As far as Canada's military. We don't have a significant one because there is no need for it. Nobody hates us. There is little chance of an attack of any sort. However, Canada happens to have amoung the best special ops and peace keeping forces out there. America spends more on their military/navy etc than the next 15 countries combined. And then they wonder why other essential services are lacking. My whole point of a war on American soil, is that it would give American citizens a new perspective of what war is really like. Right now war is the alien topic that very few North Americans can actually relate to the human side of war. Being in North America, we're in this sort of solitude from the bad stuff that other countries are subject to day after day. I just think that the public would be less eager to support a war with little urgency. I by no means intended to send a sentiment of hate or wanting death to all Americans. Just equal experience. Peace. |

replied on: 7/10/2003 9:31:52 AM And the support of administration during war times is clear. Prior to 9/11 and the war on terror, Bush's popularity rating was the lowest ever. Add in a national crisis and a call for war. Then he's a national hero. Makes sense? |
