Bono

Bono has touched (and in many cases, annoyed) millions of people worldwide with his voice and avid social activism. He’s made U2 one of rock ‘n’ roll’s finest acts and has organized and been a part of countless campaigns to fight the injustices of our world.

AIDS, famine and third world debt are just a few of the issues Bono has spoken publicly about. Now the iconic Irish rocker is really angry and in an effort to combat global poverty, he proposed a "civil disobedience" crusade during a UN Human Development ceremony last Tuesday (July 8).

Bono spoke in Dublin yesterday and said that the poverty and disease that’s occurring in Africa is "unacceptable" because it’s taking the lives of so many African natives. He’s angered that wealthier nations aren’t stepping it up with more aid and says that it’s unnecessary especially with our generation being wealthier than it’s ever been.

According to NME.com, Bono claims that he and his activist buddies will make a lot of noise if this issue isn’t given the proper attention it needs. He has already made the trek to Africa several times to bring attention to the problem and says the real issue concerning people living in poverty is equality.

Although Bono is enraged, according U2’s official website, he is also elated with U.S. President George Bush making his first trip to Africa and promising to spend $15 billion dollars over the next five years to help ease Africa’s suffering.
