The theme will be The Gardens of Staverton. The idea is to represent certain areas and depict them within the Church and it is hoped that the arrangements will be carried out by the villagers living in that area. The idea is for simplicity rather than professionalism and the fact that we want as many villagers as possible involved in this huge undertaking. The children of both Landscove School and St Christopher’s in Staverton will be approached to plant little pots of flowers so that they can be exhibited around the huge Church pillars. There will be refreshments at The Court Room, particularly concentrating on Cream Teas, so once again we will be calling on homemade scone and jam makers and helpers for this. We are hoping to approach the Railway people so that visitors can travel down from Buckfastleigh and get off at Nappers Crossing, just down the road from the Church. What a wonderful day out. There will be well versed stewards to answer questions on the Church and also the repairs needed. There will be a display of the photographic archives held by the Church and all aspects of community life. There is to be a concert on the Saturday night from Richard Clark and friends and on the Sunday, a wonderful sung Evensong. During the weekend numerous organists are going to delight the visiting numbers and there is also to be a Bell Ringing competition on the newly refurbished bells of Staverton. We are lucky to live in such a pretty village and just for three days we get to share this with others.
