I wrote to the DRO about apprenticeship records, and they indicated the records are still held by the Parish. I think I may be using the term "apprenticeship" incorrectly, though. I've formed a hypothesis that John's father died, there was no money, so the Parish took care of him by "apprenticing" him to someone (another farmer?) Is this an inaccurate picture? Is there anyone reading this forum in the area who would be open to asking the current incumbent of the Parish for a "peek" at the appropriate records for about 1817/1818 to see if there's any mention of John? I'm fairly sure that there are no direct descendants of John (1) and Ann still in the area. But it is still, in some sense, "home".
