It's sleep paralysis. I have it also. Can't move, scream, nothing. Feel like something is choking off your air, hair pulling etc,. Some people call it awareness sleep paralysis because your mind is aware of what's going on but your body is paralyzed.

Everyone I've talked to over the years has no cure for it but I find that if you try to move your eyes back and forth or even try to move even your finger sometimes you will come out of it.

Always leaves me really drained and I'm also sometimes afraid to try to go to sleep.

I also have it when I'm awake. Just sitting in a chair reading. Usually when I'm relaxed. No narcolepsy or anything it just happens.

Sorry I don't have an answer on how to stop it. Still working on that. Hope I helped a little???

i've never encountered sleep paralysis. I would not like to either but it does seem to be a phsycological problem more than anything. It's where the brain is given a sudden shock and "resets". This is me looking at it from a completely scientific point of view and I could be wrong.

Actually no it's not the brain getting a shock or resetting....Everyone I spoken to says that when you reach REM your body becomes paralized so that you cannot harm yourself during "Dream state." The problem with "Awareness Sleep Paralysis" is that some people experience not being able to move their body but are aware of their surroundings. Very scarey if you ever have it happen to you. Others say that there are dark entities or demons holding them down crushing their chests. Others say that it is all a part of alien abduction, OBE. Actually no one really knows what causes it but I've been researching it for years with no conclusive answer... Is it a phenomenon or a sleeping disorder?...Who knows at this point....

Personally, I don't rule out the possibility of ghosts/demons with sleep paralysis. There are too many coincidences from story to story. As we all know, sleep paralysis was once referred to as "The Old Hag Syndrome". Well, this is because of the enormous amount of people that reported and old hag on top of them, holding them down during these incidents. It was practically an epodemic, just as it is today. What are the odds of so many people reporting the same "old hag" of all things? Also, why is an ominous presence almost always associated with these incidents even? Also, in many cases people will report other ghostly activity in their home, just as this ScaredInOhio has here.

I would love to have the opportunity to study a sleep paralysis victim while they sleep someday. I'm sure many of the sleep institute folks have done so, but they almost assuredly haven't monitored for the presence of spirit energy.

Could you tell us about some of the other specific ghostly activities in your home, ScaredInOhio?

Thanks for sharing!

Now there is an idea I've never thought about Meth...I've have a couple sleep studies done on me over the years but never one with someone trying to catch anything spirit energy /paranormal while it's happening...I've even went so far as to set up a video camera but "Battery problems occured." I know it sounds kind of stupid to set up a camera to watch yourself sleep but hey I've become desperate to find a solution...

I'd be willing to have someone study spirit energy while I sleep as long as I knew them really well... just to see what happens...Anything to help in my research on this.. who knows you might be on to something....

George Town University did an experiment on ASP. They documented what causes it and the visual effects of it. What causes it is unknown as yet. Go figure huh.

Anyways they were trying to debunk a bunch of the UFO stories. They caught a few abnormal things with people that experience it. Their senses go wild with the normal state of Rapid Eye Movement. It's like you're feeling everything of the dream but you know it's not really happening.

I'm subject to it, and the most I can get out of it is a whisper and being able to flex my abs enough to lift up a little.

The Hindus believe that it is a Ghost Standing on your chest pinning you down when this happens. Most other polytheistic religions from south east asia believe the same thing. The Europeans believe that it is Old Hag Syndrom. The amount of visual stimilants that go through someone during this is amazing. They say that is why you see what is going on around you.

It's only happened to me four times in my life. The first time was when my brother was dabbling in demonic rituals and magic. It's really what got me into demononology, why I am not a demonologist (there are only seven or eight in the U.S.) I do study it. I pray when it happens and I'm fine afterwards. Is it a Demon? Ghost? Sleep Phenomenon? I don't know, I haven't heard of anyone being hurt by it.

Whatever your faith is though tell the Ghost that haunts your apartment to go away that it isn't welcome here. If it persists then you can send me a private message and I will find a paranormal investigation group in your area to help you out. It's hard to help someone over the internet.

If you're christian get your apartment blessed, tell your preacher/priest that you feel an unclean spirit there. If you are Jewish tell your Rabbi, Muslim tell your minister, so on and so forth. Get proffesional help if it doesn't go away and stop when you tell it. You shouldn't be scared in your own house.

I've only experienced it once in my life and that was enough..i remember trying so hard to move any part of my body and then suddenly it just released and i went into shock mode and start kicking and punchin the air..it was really scary for me at the time and i had no idea it was SP till i did a little research into it. Also I feel as if i'm been watched while in my house, like when i go down the stairs i feel as if something is staring at me, like burning there eyes into the back of my neck, but when i turn around nothing is there and i'm the only one in the house that feels this..i'm starting to think i need medical help.

A lot of people experience "the sensation that their being watched." As far as "SP" Your lucky to have only had it once in your lifetime and also come out punching the air..A lot of people will feel totally drained after an episode and actually lethargic...Were you very young when this happened?

Are you unable to move, or are you scared so badly that you cannot move? SP is theoretically generated by the continued release of a hormone (I can't think of the name right now) that keeps you from moving while you dream. The opposite is sleepwalking.

If SP is indeed just this hormone, then injection of this hormone into a concious patient should produce sp.

Due to some of my experiences, combined with those of my mom and wife, I believe that at least some sp experiences are supernatural in origen. My wife thought she was being choaked with barbed wire, and had marks around her neck matching barbed wire. SP for my mom, when she was younger was confined to a certain room, and spread to other members of her family when they slept in that room (only in that room).

Don't be afraid to go to sleep because the thing thrives on that fear. (yeah, real friggin easy josh [that's me]) Tell it that it needs to buy you dinner first. Either that or bless the room, smudge the room (burn herbs and such for protection), etc. Remember that you are in YOUR house, not its house. In short, take its backbone away from it. It will get worse, but then it will get better. This is just my opinion

OR you could always try the following:

At midnight on the night of a full moon....

1) Take all of your clothes off.

2) Run outside.

3) Hop around a tree 13 times, howling at the moon.

4) While hopping around the tree and howling at the moon, alternate between hopping on one leg and making fart noises with your armpits at the same time.

This ritual will cleanse your house for sure! (of neighbors)

- Aedryan

PS 5) This is the important part! Whatever you do, DON'T forget to video tape yourself doing this and post it here for us! >8>
