In my research I have read everything from being abducted by aliens to more scientific theories of "Awareness Sleep Paralysis" Those us of who are plagued by this phenomenon can relate to how graphic it feels and what happens to us at the onset. I've read about "Hag Attacks" That was the term that they used years ago and wierdly enough it has stuck. Also researched Narcolepsy/insomnia related sleep paralysis. In all my findings they keep referring to this as "Hypnogogic meaning (hypnos;sleep+agogos, leading. Inducing sleep or induced sleep. In psycology, pertaining to hallucinations or dreams occuring just before loss of consciousness.) and hypnopompic meaning(pertaining to dreams or visual images persisting after sleep and before complete awakening.) Kinesthetic, with visual or auditory most common of the experiences is the sense of presence accompanied by fear. Kinesthtic means the ability to perceive extent, direction or weightof movement, add the auditory?? Meaning your able to speak. Ok all that said and done. They also claim that a person having this condition actually has hand quivering. So my question is if all this is occuring at once and you have terrible sensations, fear, sadness, your involuntary muscles should be able to move. Meaning; heart, brain, lungs, arms, legs, vocal cords etc,. Why can't they work if the brain is still functioning on that plane??? I know this is a lot to absorb but this topic has me logically thinking that it has to be something else that there not finding here. To actually experience this is very bothersome. I'm in the medical field and still can't figure out why we can't find a cure for this.... Also never in my findings has it been linked to mental illness or scitzophrania, so why is it that people who have this are label as such??? Just looking for some answers anyone have any other info on this, it would be deeply appreciated..... |

replied on: 12/1/2005 10:06:08 AM The reason behind the muscles being non-responsive had to do with a particular part of the brain or nerve pathway, I dont remember where i read it right now though. Apparently struggling (sometimes) can cause some kind of reaction that can get everything working again. I dont think theres a lot of research into because its not prvied life threatening yet, despite being a very old phenomenon. |

replied on: 12/2/2005 2:28:57 AM I agree brgallag. That's another point.... The fact that this condition has been around for so long, you would think that it would be researched more than it is.... Statistics show that quite a few people have had one form or another of this but not a lot of research has been done on it... I'm just wondering why??? Other than the brain being a crafty little bugger... What about people in a coma? I've often thought about that too..... |

replied on: 12/2/2005 5:58:09 AM Here's another little tidbit. While researching "Asp" there are some people who claim that they can actually bring themselves into a "lucid dream" and control the dream. Also they speak of astral body. Meaning that you leave your physical body and use your spirit body, or have what they call "OBE'" Out of body experiences. I guess anything can be possible when your dreaming....... |

replied on: 12/2/2005 7:58:20 PM I can lucid dream, its pretty easy to accomplish if your relaxed enough. Now when i have heard people say that they get OBE during a lucid dream all i can do is laugh. Lucid dreaming feels very real but keeping in mind you know your dreaming so all is totally in your control, well sort of... But you can taste feel and smell just as you would when your awake. |

replied on: 12/4/2005 5:05:19 AM I agree Adroit. Lucid dreaming and OBE sound about the same, after all your dreaming, know that your dreaming so you are in control of that dream at times. Like sometimes when I dream I can change the outcome if that makes any sense. |
