Doctors talking gibberish!!!!!!!
posted on: 1/31/2006 5:27:30 AM

I think I mentioned in another post that my youngest daughter broke her ankle last Friday...Ok after picking her up from her fathers "which I thought was bullshit" since it was his weekend but that's another rant" My husband & I took her to the emergency room...They took her to x-ray and a doctor came in the room and started talking in gibberish... I asked him 3 times if the ankle was broken... he gave me a couple lame excuses like he was afraid to tell me that it was.....

3 HOURS LATER!!!!!!! Still sitting there waiting for someone to come and put a fiberglass splint on until she could see an orthopedic surgeon....Ok this nurse comes in and starts yipping and yapping about it being fractured and bodily moving my chair away from the sink in the room... I'm still sitting in the chair by the way..At this point I've really had it with sitting around waiting for ?????? Then she looks over at my daughter and says oh will have to cut her jeans off!!!! What ?????? why not just let her take them off before you put the splint on...so I suggest that's what they do. Then she starts twisting and turning my daughter around like a rag doll on the table talking about a cardiac patient she needs to get back too... I do realize that my daughters life was not in danger "not like a cardiac patient" but we had waited for "3 HOURS!!!!!!" Today I'm taking her to the orthopedic surgeon and still have no idea what the hell the doctor at the emergency room was talking about!!!! Anyone ever had anything like this happen to them??? I have medical terminology but I think the doc was just covering his ass from a malepractice threat if it turned out that it wasn't broken.... I hate when doctors are vague and then you get the itemized bill for the emergency room and it goes into the $1,000's for someone not even taking the time to explain what the diagnosis is ....grrrrrrr

Ok I feel better......

Doctors talking gibberish!!!!!!!
replied on: 1/31/2006 4:31:59 PM

I went to this doctor in the ER for my throat cuz i had these nasty white things in the back of my throat..I should also mention that i had no insurance..well he did a strep test and mono test and they both come back neg. so he sent me home with some nasty pink stuff that i have to gargle with to numb my throat..that didnt help cuz i couldnt get it back far enough in my throat. well i called back the next day still in pain and b!tched to the guy so he gave me Vicodin (spelling maybe wrong) last time i had this they at least gave me this steriod that made the swelling go down and the next day i was better but this guy refused to. Most doctors i think are just there for the paycheck they dont care about the patients. I heard also that you HAVE to have treatment done if you had mono and the retarted doc told me that even if it was mono theres nothing that i can do but wait it out anyway. Ugh i just hate doctors......I could go on and on but ill just shut up now...

If you have your tonsils it sounds like you had tonsilitis...That can be really nasty.... I had mine out at the ripe old age of 24 "NEVER AGAIN" I would rather have 10 kids then go through that hell again. Had to have my throat carterized 3 times....Wasn't pleasant. Plus I was way too old to be having them out but the doctor wouldn't take them out when I was young so they waited until there was no other alternative....Nasty surgery and nasty recovery....

As far as "Mono" the doc was right... You just have to wait it out and take it easy there really isn't much in the way of medication that you can take...Sorry to hear your not feeling well...

Yea Im pretty sure it was Tonsilitis. Ever since my first move up to Pennsylvania I have gotten it every year. (I have been living back and forth between Pa. and Va.) But as for Mono a friend of mine had it..she was really sick for about 6 mo. and she was back and forth to the doctor and they put her on a bunch of pills. Dont know what they were, didnt ask maybe they were steriods or something to boost her immune system..but when i get that throat thing im sick for about 2-3 weeks. the first week is when i feel it coming and for over a week its at its peek and then the last part ill get back to normal. Makes me wonder because thats a long time to be sick if its just tonsilitis...

I had chronic tonsilitis for quite a few years... Everytime the weather would change I would start to get the symptoms... I also live in Pennsylvania..The last time they put me on antibiotics for over 3 months... I had two small children at the time 2 and 4 years old and I was just totally sick!!!! Finally when I went to a "Ear, nose,& throat specialist I was so sick I went to my mothers and laid down on her kitchen floor and begged her to go with me to the specialist...He took one look at my throat and put me in the hospital on an IV antibiotic "Getermicine" and 3 days later I was scheduled for surgery....Terrible, terrible, terrible. I've never been so sick....Then the recovery was worse...Never again..

You should go to a specialist and get them out you will never have a sore throat or feel so crappy like that again.....After the recovery it's smooth sailing.....

That reminds me, back when I was little like elementary age i had sore throat and ear infections all the time and one doctor said that i needed tubes and my tonsils out and the other one said no to either. I probably would have been so much better off if it had have been done. Maybe when i get some insurance i can get it done but..until then ill just have to deal.

Funny you should say that because both of my daughters went through the whole tubes in the ears drama and then eventually got their tonsils and adenoids out at a young age and never had any problems with their ears again....

Get some insurance and get them out....that's my advice

dealing with throat infections

Slippery elm bark tea helps with throat infections and can knock out just about anything. If that fails, it's nasty, but gargling with hydrogen peroxide also works, but you have to be careful not to accidently swallow the stuff. Now that I am older it makes me gag, so I prefer the tea method.

If you have a fever with your infection, yarrow flower tea will take care of that, but drink the tea before bedtime, because it will knock you out. But you wake up feeling a heck of a lot better. You use about a tablespoon of yarrow blossoms steeped in a cup of hot water for the tea.

Honey helps the body to absorb the medicines in teas, and I don't know why that is, and it also had antibiotic properties.

Heard of using honey before... only problem is I'm allergic and in my case the only thing that helped me was to yank those tonsils out!!! Guess I was to far gone...

When I was little I had Chronic ear infections that left me partially deaf with nerve damage...the kind that you can't fix..

I also had chronic tonsilitis, ended up with tonsils out when I was twelve, but I still have ear problems.

Yeah, Dr's in Ers scare me. Not just because they talk gibberish, but because to be quite honest medical staff are way over worked. Some one calls off, and they are working 16 hour shifts. a lot of times, they really do work 7 days a week. So not only are you dealing with a dr that doesn't know you, or your hystory, they are extreemly tired, and exhaustion can to intresting things to your head.

Yeah your right Fey...most times we are over worked to the point of exhaustion. Oh and by the way..."IT'S NOT BROKEN" actually she is up and running. She runs cross country/track/pole vaults.."a lot of energy in this kid. They told me their was a fracture and the orthepedic doc said nope, she just pulled a tendon...We put on a leg support and she was good to go...Also found out that the radiologist that read my daughters x-ray was in Australia!!! Ok we don't have any on call radiologists in the US???What the F#@$#%!!! Just glad that she is better.
