I know that some people don't fear death because of their beliefs. But what about the actual way your going to die? Anyone ever thought about it, and fear it? My fear is that I'll die by drowning, or suffocating. Also I'd rather go quick than suffer because of a long term illness. What about everyone else? |

The Fear of death
replied on: 2/16/2006 7:46:46 AM I don't fear death at all. Being a former soldier who has seen combat, it is something we thought about on a daily basis. Something I worry about in relation to death, is the state I leave my family in.... I know I can't help them feel good about it but I want them to be comfortable when I am gone. |

The Fear of death
replied on: 2/17/2006 1:50:36 AM I know what you mean Frank. I don't know if anyone can prepare for death though...For instance in my sisters case. Her son had just had his 17th Birthday on July 23rd of 2005 and was killed in a car accident on August 20th of 2005, which incidentally was his Dad's Birthday. They were not prepared for the shock of it. I don't think anyone can prepare for something like that...But if someone dies of a long term illness rather than an accident sometimes they will have already made preparations for their family. Oh and I wanted to ask...Were you in "Desert Storm?" You said that you had seen combat? Was just wondering. |

replied on: 2/17/2006 2:06:20 AM No, I wasn't in Desert Storm, it wasn't in my area of operations (A.O.). I was with 1st SFG(A), our AO was the Asian-Pacific Realm. Be aware that not all "combat" is televised and the public is not notified of most operations. |

The Fear of death
replied on: 2/17/2006 2:35:25 AM Your right a lot of military operations aren't televised...Actually I think that civilians are kept in the dark unless the media gets their noses in..And sometimes they make things worse with their nosing around. They can mess up everything by there publicity...I always say that as long as Americans are safe we shouldn't know what is going on...it could cause mass histeria and that's even worse...Just my opinion.... The reason I asked was because my cousin was in Desert Storm...Said that it really sucked.... |

The Fear of death
replied on: 2/17/2006 4:02:28 AM I tell people that American citizens only know about 6% of what they're governemnt actually does. They say we are in a war right now, true we are but then again, the US is always at war. Most people don't know that and shouldn't in my opinion. There is a reason we are the most powerful country on the face of the earth. All these little factions ("Terrorists") around the world that are trying to express their power are just trying to get a peice of the pie. The media tells us it's caused by US and western oppression but that is not the case. Those countries and their people were oppressed long before we had any interaction with them. Most of them are living the same way they have for 100's if not 1000's of years. Sure they haven't advanced much since then but hey, there has to be 3 things met for a country or people to succeed: passion, determination and know-how. So far they have shown only 2 of these traits. Sorry, off track again! Needless to say, they have a low or nonexistant fear of death. |

The Fear of death
replied on: 2/17/2006 6:45:19 AM I agree to some extent. I believe that we should know more than what we do. I'm not say everyone needs to know everything because like you said it would cause a panic. Look at Bush and illegal surveillance(sp?). We have been spied upon ever since the NSA was formed. People don't want to believe half of what the government does. Just my opinion. But back to the topic. I don't fear death either. I'd rather die quick but if it wasn't then I try would fight it. |

The Fear of death
replied on: 2/17/2006 7:54:22 AM A lot of people fear pain when in the process of dying. Pain, like anything else has a threshold. If you die a long death (over several hours or days) you would get use to the pain. Of course there are varying degrees of pain you would experience. Also, after your body reaches its threshold it would cause you to pass out, so I'm not sure how "agonizing" a painful death would be. |

Just my opinion. Well I don't care who spies on us just as long as they keep trying to eradicate "terrorists." The way I see it we should be protected at all costs. The American Soliders are over there fighting for our freedom and safety and if the President wants to spy on people that's fine with me I have nothing to hide. Also we are not dealing with people who believe in the same things as we do and Frank is right. They have been fighting for 100's to 1000's of years and they have no fear of death. Ok off topic also but as far as not fearing death...a lot of people don't..And I agree I would fight if it was a illness that could be cured... |

replied on: 2/17/2006 9:52:20 AM quote: I don't fear the pain of death, because your right Frank the body will respond after a certain time and your right you will become unconscious...but a lot of times when someone is dieing from a long term illness we will give them a slow drip of morphine and then from then on they just fall asleep. Mostly cancer patients... A person who is in the burn unit is a different situation.... |

The Fear of death
replied on: 2/17/2006 10:00:17 AM Well, I don't know how illegal Bush's listening program is since they are listening to known terrorists phone conversations with US citizens. They don't pick "John Smith" at random and listen to the conversations. When I was in the military we would listen into all kinds of conversaations over US wireless phones (unofficially of course for entertainment), no one told us to, we would just sit back and laugh. You would be surprised how many wives and husbands are cheating. Oh the Drama! LOL We never tapped phones, we would just pick up random signals in the air. Of course we can't do that anymore with encryption and spread spectrum tech. |
