Why are people so easily offended?
posted on: 3/1/2006 6:05:36 AM

This is something that has been bothering me for a while and it's not necessarly exclusive to this forum.

I am so tired of people getting their feelings hurt and then expecting me to care. I'm not an insenitive person to were I try to offend people but I'm not going to lie to you just to make you feel better either.

If I make a statement, wrong or right, it is MY personal opinion! Period! If we are in a topic that is up for debate then I will put in my 2 cents if I am interested. I will put this in writing right here, "don't expect me to change my behavior or my beliefs to make you feel better about yours". Political correctness is crap! I am not a politician! No one can take away my god given right to be an asshole if I wanna be.

Disclaimers: I am saddened when I see people apologize in advance, "if my post happens to offend anyone, it wasn't meant to..."! That's bullshit!

If I single you out by calling you a "fuckstick", "shitbag" or a "dumbass" then you have the right to be offended. If I tell you my thoughts on your belief system, which you put out there for everyone to read and comment on, then don't get offended if my ideas on the matter are less than what you expected.

Now saying all that, everyone who has read my posts on here knows that I am not abusive without provocation. Even when I am provoked, most of the time I will not be sucked into an ignorant arguement.

Anyway, just a little venting.

It comes down to maturity of the person. They have to be able to take criticism and to look at things realitively logical. The thing that people forget is that they posted it and are usually looking for opinions and the other thing people forget is that although we question them and sometimes criticize, we were not there so we can't say anything that takes away from their experiences. We can form our own ideas but in the end thats all it is, our ideas.

I knew someone would bite.

I know what you mean Chaos but I have noticed it is coming from all age-groups now. I mentioned in my original rant that it doesn't pertain only to this forum. As a matter of fact what finally triggered this rant was from a meetup group in Houston. The organizer is a well-known investigator from our area (media coverage and all), I showed up to one of they're meetups, listened to what they had to say and made my observations (criticisms). Next thing I know I am no longer a member of that group.

I wasn't offensive at all, as a matter of fact I thought it was really constructive. I think it actually has to do with ego and the competition factor we have in Houston. When a lot of the groups started down here, there was a lot of in-fighting. Mainly because we all knew each other and didn't agree with each others methods and then it started to get personal. Needless to say it has cooled down considerably and everyone just does they're own thing.

Anyway, I expected a lot more from this guy and was miserably disappointed.

I have noticed that age doesn't mean maturity. Luckily I've only had to deal with this twice. Ego definately has a lot to do with their reaction.

Hell, I'm getting to be an old-hand at it. LOL

So far we have been playing vmail and email tag and haven't talked since this occurred. We both want to clear this up. He said in one of his vmails that he realizes we investigate from two different viewpoints, him being more metaphysical and me being more technical, but he would still like to work with me.

I thought, "oh you are so gracious! Can I work with you, really!?" ***Beaming***...***Eyes Rolling***

We have had to clean up after this guy's team before. He leaves clients hanging after he goes to site. If there is no activity he won't follow-up for some reason. So then we get contacted, do our interviews, preliminary, investigation(s). Whether we find anything or not a report is submitted to the client telling them what we found and we give our recommendations. Simple, right!?

I would have touched this one a little sooner but the forum well ....you know the story.

I think your right Frank if someone puts themself out there then they should deal with what everyone elses opinions are...We are all different and if we don't agree then it's our right not too.

I will say that I have apologized quite a few times on this forum but only because I didn't want to get the boot for my opinions but I've come to believe that if someone doesn't like what I'm saying then it's their problem not mine...

So yep in a nutshell I agree...

I think people are easily offended because they are afraid of other possabilities. People fear what they don't understand....people try to destroy what they fear. I estimate 89% of that is beleifs alone.

It's like they beleive one thing, and refuse to think that they could be wrong. But hey, sometimes the pointless arguments pose for mild amusement.

Cuuuuuuz, the internet is mostly full of people, who are being bullied IRL,so they try to find friends online.
They are mentally hurt and weak.. unlike mua -poses- BD
Bullies actually made me more calm and I have that inner hate,so each time someone attacks.. poo on them ;D
