    Halfling spec vs. elite defense
    posted on: 7/1/2003 6:46:54 PM

I know this is an old debate, but would someone here give me some advice on defending with halflings? Right now I'm an attacker with around 3K land - most of my defense right now is from master thieves, although I do have a few thousand defenders as well. I was able to run high MTs before converting, but I find that they are really slowing me down right now.

I've gotten some differing opinions on this so far, including all of the following:

    1) Run all MT defense from this point on(originally my plan, now thinking of changing it)
    2) Run 1:1 ratio of defenders to MTs (This sounds reasonable)
    3) Run 2:1 ratio of defenders to MTs (I doubt it could work for me now)
    4) Run enough MTs to maintain a spy ratio of 3 and fill the rest with defenders (works out to roughly 2:1 ratio of MTs to defenders)
    5) Ratios are for noobs (probably true, but since I meet the requirement I don't mind using them so much, although I'm open to other suggestions)

I don't think that it matters if you hold a 3 spa or not. If you plan to continue attacking, your main objective isn't your spa, but it's your overall defense.

A 2:1 might be ok, but I'd probably go with a 1:2 ratio, since your only hope for a solid defense is running MT's. 1 being Staff Masters, 2 being MT's. It doesn't matter if you have an spa of 2, 3, or a 4 even. A ratio of 1:2 could work out, because if you continue to attack, and use an spa of 1, you'd have your MT's for spy defense, and your overall defense, and enough space left over for a decent offense. If you stick with an spa of 1, you'll have to be very selectful when it comes to you choosing a target, so you don't have to worry much about ops being returned on you after you hit. (Look for a target with weak spies/low spa.)

The problem that I can see with this though, is I don't know your current strat, and I'm not sure if this is feasable. It depends on what you've got, and if you'd be safe to convert.

You might consider a 1:1:1 ratio, lol. Defenders, Staff Masters, and MT's. Maybe?

I hope I made some since here. I took some painkillers, and I'm not sure if I was able to spit out what I was actually trying to say. hehe

You're fairly close to the top, so you should be able to maintain your DP based on the top op. If you find you need a lot of defense quick to stay ahead of the top op, use defenders. If you have an adequate defense and the money, buy MTs. In the long run you'll do better with all MTs, but if buying them causes you to fall behind, they're not a good choice.

defenders man! If you are close to the top, theres really no point in running all expensive elites. yes the efficiency helps, but it WILL slow you down. Just use the mts to build a *decent* spa (1-3ish).
