Round 18 efficiency calcs
replied on: 6/2/2003 5:02:34 PM I'm looking at various strats for the different races, and I'm afraid I have an error. It appears that the most efficient Troll strat is 45-50% masonries. In fact, EVERY race looks good running a high number of masonries... I wish I knew what the new improvements formula was going to be. |

replied on: 6/2/2003 5:33:41 PM I noticed that too Tim. Masonries were already pretty efficient with the improvements as low as they were now they got boosted it seems. The way Ross made it sound it will be equally as easy to get improvements initially, but there will be a steeper curve as you get closer to the maximums. Oh, and I have a question about the efficiency calcs too. Why is the minimum plat efficiency 10 for all races but DE and WE? It doesn't work for me at 632 acres (I want to test efficiency for a 12 hour OOP build). -Regis |

replied on: 6/2/2003 5:43:55 PM 2 reasosn: 1)Because when the plat efficiency gets that low it becomes very tough for excel to recurse the required ore and wood efficiencies without spitting up and producing negative numbers. and 2) When I first started writing the sheet, I was trying to decide between my beloved WE and a super efficient DE that used barracks. Then Ross changed the rules... You should be able to drag the formula from the DE and WE columns into the other columns. Make a back up of the sheet first though. |

replied on: 6/3/2003 10:43:39 PM Tim, i dl'd your spreadsheet last night, and have been looking over it. I dont quite understand what you have going for sylvans. you dont have them invest anything at all. is that accurate, or did i mes up the sheet? also, how come when i change something for sylvans it puts negative percentages in the halfers columns? |

replied on: 6/3/2003 11:05:13 PM The races are not configured to their optimal strat, so you probably need to set the Sylvan to invest wood. As for the halfer stuff going negetive, well, halfers are not real space efficient, and poor space efficiency leads to Excel producing unrealistic numbers to try to attain a balance when OPA and DPA aree set high. Since you working on Sylvans, just ignore the halfer results. Each column of the sheet will change when you change something anywhere on any open Excel sheet because the default setting for Excel is to update formulas upon data entry, so any formula, even if it isn't related to what you're working on, get re-evaluated when you make the even the smallest change. |

replied on: 6/4/2003 1:44:39 AM for my sanity's sake, would it mess things up if i merely deleted all the columns except for the sylvan column? |

replied on: 6/4/2003 3:42:36 AM also since i have an over efficiency of ore, should i invest that too? or could that be dangerous? |

replied on: 6/4/2003 10:15:03 AM Yea, deleting everything except sylvan should be ok. If it doesn't work, send me an email so I can reply with an attachment. Oh, and investing your ore should be fine. Although make sure your actually over producing ore before investing it. It really sucks to invest all your ore only to find out that you have to buy some later. Ore doesn't rot, so it can sit around. |

replied on: 6/4/2003 7:50:46 PM I believe there to be an error on the dwarf section of the sheet. You factored in 20,000 miners but did not add them to military pop and total pop, with that the peasantry is up 20,000 and should only be 8,000 and change I could be wrong but let me know. |

replied on: 6/5/2003 9:35:08 AM I think you're right, but I fixed that in the Dwarf specific calculator. I'm sure I broke something else in the process though (I'm a telecom tech, its in my nature to break things as I fix them...we call it job security). |

replied on: 6/7/2003 7:07:53 AM Tim I know I asked you this before but is it possible to get these spreadsheets converted out of office so ppl who dont have or use office can get some benefit from all your work? I know I would rather not have office installed because I am only using for dominion and nothing else and its only to view the spreadsheets and I feel its a really bad wasted of space for me. Soooo I am just wondering if something can be done to post these spreadsheets in another format so window only users can see them? |

replied on: 6/7/2003 5:33:26 PM I'm trying to figure out what other resources are available to us. It would be a pain in the soft end to write a VB app for each race, but if we can have php pages on our site, I would be willing to make one for each race that is integrated directly into the web page. For now, Office is the best I can do. |

replied on: 6/9/2003 11:20:59 PM one more Q tim: if my plat efficiency is 12 hours does this mean that ill be able to attk again 12 hours after i attked (so right when my troops come home) or 12 hours after they return? i tihnk its the latter, but i dun kno. you da man! |

replied on: 6/10/2003 10:09:00 AM Theoretically it means you would be able to attack in 12 hours again, but since the sheet doesn't show growth over time, you probably wouldn't really be able to get another x% hit a mere 12 hours later. The sheet wrongly assumes that the buildings and troops are available immediately and doesn't factor in 12 or 9 hour training and building times. This is another reason why the sheet isn't so great for OOP stuff. It really doesn't start getting useful until after 1000 acres. If I were a smarter man, I would write something that would show a progression over time based on the current information, but all I have is a collection of vague ideas. |
