So much for 60% Masonries
posted on: 6/3/2003 3:54:52 AM

Your Castle
Part Rating Invested Invest
Science: +3.6% income 240,000
Keep: +10.87% max population 544,796
Towers: +0% wizard power 0
Forges: +0% offensive power 0
Walls: +3.73% defensive power 250,000
Irrigation: +11.19% food production 250,000

They just got a LOT harder to get. These are all at 299 acres btw. To make masonries even close to worth it requires you to go more than 1/2 of the max on 4 of the 6, and that simply isn't going to be possible anymore. At least I don't think so.

PS Here's the new formula. Thanks to Mickles for posting it in the dominion message boards [Max Bonus%]*(1-e^(-([Total Invested Points]*[Wonder Point Bonus])/(4000*([Total Land])+15000)))*[Total Improvement Mods(masons)%]

Looking at the math, if you intend to grow fast and be one of the top players, you probably don't want to screw around with masonries. If you know (like me) that you're not a top 100 player, you may want to consider them, but as has been pointed out, even with the increased gem production, it will take more diamond mines with the new formula to get the same percentages you have now. If you want even higher percentages, it will require even more diamond mines than most people currently use. They may still rock for a sylvan explorer though...hmmm...time to do some math...

I'm not following you Tim, why a Sylvan explorer? Wood Elves are the better of the two at exploring, you only need 60% forests for their 0/7 defensive unit (80% for Sylvan), and it is only 60 plat more (with the Round 18 changes).

You're right, it is better for a WE explorer.

I was just thinking sylvan because they had a cap on their forest anyhow, didn't need to cast their racial spell to get good lumber production, and thus would seem to have more "left-over" land to run masonries. Masonries help a WE explorer a little mroe though, even with the need to cast the spell and such.

It all depends on how fast you grow, but I don't think Masonries are going to be a very useful building for anyone in round 18. Using alchemies, Homes/Barracks, Guard Towers and Farms is more efficient than trying to boost your improvments percentages with the amount of land Masonries require.
