GT/GN will be important again. 1,5% is fair, solid buildings! Masonries sound good at changes, but i saw it harder to keep improvments high now...Im not sure if theyre a good idea, but i guess not. Factories could be powerfull, expecially for explorers. Smithies: no good idea anymore (even not in protection), 1% isnt worth it, there are better buildings....big problem for Troll, Merfolk and some other races here... Shrines: Could solve the smithy-problem when youre attacker, expecially if you bottomfeed with mortal troops. |

replied on: 6/3/2003 9:23:39 PM Agreed on Barracks. That is especially good for Kobold. GT/GN I'm not sure on. I don't think their worth it in most situations. Masonries would rock everything IF the improvments had the same formula as last round and the new max %'s, now they just suck big time. Factories *could* be pretty good and you're right, especially for explorers. I'm about to test them compared to Smithies for protection. As for Smithies and Shrines: I won't use smithies at all after protection (if I use them at all) and Shrines will certainly help Trolls. -Regis |

replied on: 6/3/2003 9:32:44 PM I guess shrines wont only help trolls. Most elite attackers are damn expensive now. Maybe thats the key for the attacking problem. I dont like smithies at all, if you build them for protection, youve useless buildings later, or youve to re-build. GT/GN is difficult, thats right...but i think theyre more fair now... |

replied on: 6/3/2003 10:41:46 PM GT's are good choices for races that have poor space efficiency late round: Dwarves, Lizzies, gobos, etc. They only start paying off once your draft rate hits about 60%. Before that you could go with high DMs and masons, or even alchs. I haven't found any cases yet where shrine are helpful. |

replied on: 6/4/2003 3:44:09 AM shrines beat out almost everything now that imps suck. Gts are NOT a good idea. You can always run more homes, and I think homes will ALWAYS beat gts. Homes>gts even back when gts were 2*land% Now its just REALLY bad. There are, however extreme cases I suppose. If you go up above 50-60% homes, you may end up losing out, as max employment for you, would still be rather poor. (few buildings left to employ) |

replied on: 6/4/2003 3:45:07 AM factories and shrines come out as clear winners. Smithies are still useful too, however alcs catch up as dpa rises. |

replied on: 6/4/2003 8:35:27 AM I must not be understanding factories...everytime I do math on them they get beat out by almost everything! Maybe I don't have my formula for their effect correct. my formula is (MAX(.2 , 1-[Fac%]*4+[Tech Advance]) * [Build Cost]) * .75 The formula for rezoning is similar: MAX(0.2 , 1-[Fac%]*4) * [Rezone cost] Unless I missed an update somewhere, that's all they do, right? |

replied on: 6/4/2003 2:10:49 PM Well, you are missing something for protection. Everyone explores their land in protection so you shouldn't multiply by .75 at the end. Still, smithies come out better in protection because you can get the full affect from them and still have max alchemies for longer, which makes up for the difference between plat saved by Factories (roughly 200k) and Smithies (100-125k). -Regis |

replied on: 6/4/2003 8:29:36 PM (([build cost]*(IF(attacking 75%,.75,0))*IF(tech,.9,0))*Max(.2,(1-[factory%]*4) It appears you werent stacking them Tim? I really dont know. That was crossreferenced vs my own dom though. |

replied on: 6/5/2003 7:51:53 AM Regis, this sheet isn't real useful for figuring a strat in protection. What it does do is figure out the best builds for after protection. It calculates how long it will take to build a 7% land grab, buy back the casulaties you took getting that grab, buy the new defense and offense you would need for your new land size, buy the spies and wizards, and all that jazz. Mickles, does almost every bonus that has a cap stack like that? For example, the shrines bonus is capped at 80% but then unit bonuses (like 15% for Staff Masters) further reduce those losses. I'll have to check that... |

replied on: 6/5/2003 9:30:28 PM J-roc>> you are correct. However it wasnt supposed to be like that. Apparently Ross forgot to change it, however he posted that it would be fixed this round. Tim>> no not every one of them. Casualty bonuses are are added, except for unit casualty reduction. Im not sure on spells. However there is a max of 80% including shrines, ruby, tech etc etc. |
