Ur strat is the best way to play IMO.. I'd played woodie for some rounds and had similar strat as urs
1 thing to remember, dont dump all lumbers to castle late rd after u've reached 80% of max improvements %-age.. convert some to plat to increase ur income

I must say that i have expected most of your answers but its a good feeling to see that i´m doing right. I have always played full-time attacker with various races (Dwarf, Gnome, DE, Lizzi, Spirit) and i do have a good OOP strat were i rely on deff specs and off elites but there was always the same problem. How long should i do so --- and when joining the RG (and EG later on)? Maybe you can give me some hints *g*.
And if you now mention the significant increase in cost (elites +10%, changes rnd18) i think i will rely on off specs (after OOP) too - not completely but maybe 30-40% - and again how long (eg till 1000 acres?)
I think thats the way Ross wants it to be - it fits also the downgrading of the smithies and the upgrading of the GT and GN.

First off, this sheet is not good with such low acres. It is really meant to get you from 750 or 1000 acres to the end of the game.

Now, as to the questions about attacking, converting, etc. Yes, I typically discuss all round attackers. I find targets are too plentiful in the beginning to only explore for 100-140 acres first day OOP. Also, I never could understand why I would want to take 3, 4, 7, etc days to tear down a bunch of buildings, rebuild them elsewhere, and then buy a ton of offense while I watch everyone pass me by. Maybe this is why I'm not a top 100 player, I don't know...

The sheet assumes all elites, but for OOP it is better to buy Longbowmen. Of course buying 2000 or 3000 longbowmen will not hurt your overall efficiency that much.

If you set the sheet for low acres, low DPA and OPA, and change the defensive elite to 4 DP 325p and 10r, you can simulate lower acre strats. You'll also see that it barely helps your strat to run 35% smithies. I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't run smithies for OOP, but the results do suggest the new hobbled smithies aren't much good for WE. My guess is that you should just use specs in the beginning and wait until about 1000 acres before you start buying elites, without using smithies. Of course this all depends on where you are in the rankings...

I have some questions about that strategy:

+) Are you playing full-time Attacker with it? (only exploring in protection)

+) Or do you convert at eg. 2k acres?

+) If you do explore until 2k acres on which type of unit do you rely on (def specs or elites)?

+) If you attack OOP - you will need smithies (i think so) but how much because with the changes in rd18 they aren´t worth to build too much of them *g*.

I played WE several rounds ago and used a similar strat, but then with some 80-90 alchs which I razed to build smithies OOP. Then I kept 20% smithies or so up until I converted to attacker at 2,5k acres. Ofcourse smithies are just a shadow now of what they where then, but are you suggesting that a WE attacker should not build them at all? And which type of military units are your numbers based on? I used to run all elites except specs OOP.

Ofcourse running a strat without smithies will make conversion faster, but you perhaps mean a all-round attacker here..?

By my calcs, the same old Farm, Tower, Docks, Lumberyard, Homes strat seems to be best for attacking woodies.

For anyone who doesn't know it, it's something like this:

Enough farms to feed your pop and produce a little extra (about 7%)
Enough towers to cast all your spells (about 5-6%)
    20-25 docks
and then vary the ratio of lumberyards to homes until you get an employment rate that is close to 100%.

At 2k acres with 52.5 OPA, 74 DPA, 1 WPA and SPA, the percentages are:
    45.25% homes
    6.48% Farms
    42.27% Lumberyards
    5% towers
    1% docks
