| ZemTheManiac Forum Owner Level 127 Mad Scientist Quote | Reply | | Island Realm :: Ayden & Lazuli posted on: 9/5/2005 6:39:09 PM NinjaOfTheLeaf: Another page, another few minutes. It wasn't so much that he was a slow reader as it was that he was completely baffled by the information he held in his hands. It was difficult to comprehend how such a civilisation could have produced what they had. And call it advernturer's curiosity that he even bothered to look for a book on the Under Dark. Just inside the doorway was where Ayden sat, reading. Perhaps the library held other books on the races he knew little about. Perhaps a book about his own? KabeRinnaul: The elf opened the library doors partway and leaned in, hoping the deathless wouldn't be too terribly difficult to find. He was pleased, then, to find his subject sitting just inside. Lazuli pushed the door open the rest of and stepped inside, addressing the sealbearer in a cheerful voice. "Ah, there you are. That was rather easier than I thought it would be." NinjaOfTheLeaf: Tearing his eyes from his book, Ayden gazed up at the elf. "Pardon?" He uncrossed his ankles, closing the book and hoping he could remember what page he had left off on. Standing, he held the book against his chest, his weight settling on one foot, his head tilted to the side in curiosity. KabeRinnaul: Lazuli adjusted his glasses as he stepped up to the table. "Didn't Virvius talk to you? He's very bad about this kind of thing. Gets caught up in studies and decides everything is someone else's problem..." The elf shrugs and smiles, extending a hand to the deathless in greeting. "Ah well. I'm Lazuli, as you may have known, and I'm to instruct you in using your seal." NinjaOfTheLeaf: "Ah! Oh, no, he did speak with me. I suppose I just didn't connect the two." Ayden smiles charmingly, setting his book down and taking the elf's hand. "A pleasure to finally make your acquaintance." Lazuli was certainly more comfortable to be around than Virvius.. maybe it was his outlook that made him so unpleasant, magic aside? He pushes the thought to the back of his mind, focusing on the present. KabeRinnaul: "Hm. I suppose we should talk first, at least so I can find out how much you know already. Would you prefer we sit here, or go upstairs?" NinjaOfTheLeaf: "Whichever you feel suits the situation better." KabeRinnaul: "Well, I suppose it would be easier if we were already there, so... may I have your hand again?" He extended his own again. NinjaOfTheLeaf: Ayden took the elf's hand again, a brow arched in amusement. "Are you sure you aren't just trying to hold my hand?" The corners of his lips twitched up in a little smirk. KabeRinnaul: "Of course not." Lazuli smiles at him, and Ayden suddenly finds himself in a stone room lit with magical lights, a stone arch to his right leading out onto a wide balcony, beyond which the trees of the island can easily be seen. "It's just the polite way to do that." He released Ayden's hand and stepped back. "Welcome to the fourth level of the tower. What was, at one point, my home." NinjaOfTheLeaf: He looked around the room, past the arch, then returned his gaze to the elf. "Lovely place. Can't say I understand why you'd leave here.." Ayden again glanced about the room, tucking his hair behind his ear. KabeRinnaul: He walks over to a chair set against the wall, one of several in the room, and sits, then gestures for Ayden to sit as well. "After Kimati and my daughter left, I decided to resume travelling again. I've been living on a small demiplane for some time. It's a very interesting place. Elemental fire is completely abent. While that does mean the weather is rather harsh, the scenery is wonderful." NinjaOfTheLeaf: Ayden took the closest seat, crossing his ankles and smoothing his robes self-consciously, and he smiled pleasantly. "Sounds nicer than where I've been staying, though I have to admit, I thoroughly enjoy the company I have." After a pause, he pouted a little, not dissimilar to a child. "When he's actually around, that is." KabeRinnaul: He shrugs. "Well, I came here for a reason. So, how much do you actually know about the seal's abilities?" NinjaOfTheLeaf: "Sadly, not very much," he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. KabeRinnaul: "Hm. What are you capable of with it?" NinjaOfTheLeaf: "Honestly, I couldn't tell you where my magic ended and the seal's began." KabeRinnaul: "Well then, I suppose it might be easier to just go on into teaching you the basics of things. First of all, using the seal's power to cast spells rather than your own. After that, I suppose I should make sure you don't start using Zelmar's method of drawing directly from the seal..." NinjaOfTheLeaf: "I take it there are some rather negative effects to that method?" KabeRinnaul: "Well, mostly it's just slower. But if you're near him while he's using it, you can probably feel the black mana. I expect you react rather poorly to it, being the white sealbearer." NinjaOfTheLeaf: "Yes..." He folded his hands in his lap, somewhat uncomfortably. KabeRinnaul: He nods. "The majority of that is excess he's not properly using. It leaks from the seal when not properly focused." |

replied on: 11/22/2005 12:18:19 AM Lazuli stands again. "And while I'm certain you'll find yet another inappropriate hint in the request..." He steps towards the door, and pauses under the arch. "...would you mind following me to the bedroom?" |

replied on: 11/22/2005 12:55:17 AM "It would have been inappropriate had you worded it differently, I think," Ayden grins. "And the lack of facial expression also detracted from it..." He shrugs, standing and stretching behind him. With his hands still clasped behind his back, he approaches Lazuli, tilting his head to the side. "But what do you have in mind?" |

replied on: 4/15/2006 1:01:27 PM He talks as he leads Ayden there. "Well, if I'm going to teach you anything about the seal, I think we should start by finding a place for that purpose. I know the perfect place, and this will make the return easier." They stop at the entrance to the bedroom. Remaining standing, Lazuli gestures towards the bed itself. "Please, have a seat." |

replied on: 5/1/2006 8:23:04 AM The silver haired sorcerer took a seat, folding his hands in his lap as he regarded the ancient elf with a bemused expression. He spoke nothing of the remark that formed in his head, however. He`d made one already; there was no need to continue. |

Island Realm :: Ayden & Lazuli
replied on: 5/21/2007 9:38:18 PM Lazuli cupped his hands upward, and a faint swirling mist began to gather in them, shortly solidifying into what looked like a soap bubble full of thin bluish smoke. "Catch." Lazuli held one hand up, the orb floating just above his palm, and blew, sending the fragile-looking thing drifting towards Ayden. |

replied on: 6/21/2007 3:04:32 PM "Eh?" Red eyes widened slightly, surprised at the bubble-like manifestation. He, regardless, cupped his hands to do as told, not quite sure what to expect from the strange thing. |

replied on: 6/22/2007 11:19:25 PM Ayden is aware long enough to see the bubble burst as it reaches him, the thin blue mist washing over him. But as soon as it does, he blacks out. Soon he awakes to find himself on the beaches between the tower and the forest path, with Lazuli floating just above the sand nearby, legs crossed as though sitting on a solid surface. "Ah, good. I was afraid I hadn't adjusted the spell properly to account for your unliving state." |

replied on: 6/22/2007 11:36:01 PM The Deathless stirred, less than pleased with that sudden turn. But before he could gripe about it, he'd pushed himself up on his palms and found himself blinking in confusion at Lazuli's statement. "...You snit; you could have warned me," he finally managed, pouting a bit as he drew himself up, dusting off his robes. |

replied on: 6/23/2007 11:36:31 PM Lazuli smiles at the complaint. "I suppose so. But this was more fun, don't you think?" He stands - which is better described as simply moving his legs so that his feet once again touch the ground - and gestures inland. "We can use this area to let you use your abilities however you wish without worry. And thus, it is excellent for practice." |

replied on: 6/24/2007 10:52:42 AM "I think not finding myself on my back is more fun." He paused to consider his wording. "Then again, that's very situationally dependent." His tongue poked past his lips in a teasing gesture. "Elves always have an odd sense of humour, don't you?" At Lazuli's next words, he glanced around. This was very true; such an area as this would prove good for practice. |

replied on: 6/24/2007 1:20:05 PM "Some do, yes." He stopped to consider what to do. "Think the first thing to consider is the fact that, aside from your transformation from an undead into a being of positive energy, you have yet to actually use the seal's power at all." |

replied on: 7/9/2007 10:32:27 AM Pale arms crossed, the sleeves of his robe getting pushed back as they did. Ayden glanced off to one side, thoughtful and lightly canting his head, before turning back to Lazuli. "With the exception of that one... rather embarrassing loss," he chuckled a bit nervously, "I haven't really seen much reason to use it... I've not really thought about it." |

replied on: 7/23/2007 6:13:06 PM He decided against making a quip on the vague remark. The following one drew a quiet laugh from the Deathless sorcerer, a hand planting on his hip. "Do I understand anything about that man?" Ayden returned, arching a slender brow. "Not really, though." He shook his head, shoulders lifting slightly. "We're in two different schools of magical thought, so much doesn't really translate." |

replied on: 7/23/2007 10:42:19 PM "This is a style of magic entirely different from anything either of you used before. It's not receiving preformed spells from higher power like he did, or forming energy into a learned shape like you. It is instead the ability to instinctively and instantly shape magic to your whim to form any effect." He pauses to let Ayden consider that. "A few mages with real talent can achieve this through a lifetime of dedicated work, but the seal grants you immediate use of the ability, as well as access to a source of energy to use with it. The only mages in the realm who can use magic the way you'll be able to are probably myself and Virvius. Khisilmen as well, perhaps, but his methods are... unique." (OOC description... From a Discworld point of view, you're moving beyond being a Wizard and becoming a Sourcerer.) |
