the baked spud bloke at the foot of the ramp
posted on: 7/9/2003 5:09:08 PM

...had what looked like Stephenson's Rocket cooking potoatoes at the foot of the ramp at the corner of New St and Corporation St...I have vivid memories of coming home from school in the early 80's buying a spud and trying not to notice the deafening sound of the starlings as i walked up the rd to get the 94 bus back to Castle Brom...is he still there? I haven't been 'up town' for 5 or 6 years...he was there then...

Baked potatoes are nowadays sold from a Stephenson's Rocket / mobile crematorium type device at the Bull Street entrance to Priory Square.
My own favourite street-food cooking contraption, however, is that big, medieval Inquisition-style torture implement the Germans bring with them to cook sausages on outside the Council House at Christmas.
