replied on: 11/18/2003 8:30:44 PM I can't confirm the Blackpool kidnapping but I know for a fact that a car of lads from the Glebe went to the corner of Green Lane, dragged him in the car and kicked him out in front of the Glebe pub, where he merrily danced until the wee hours. Definitely one of the funniest things I have ever seen, unless you count the time my Step-Father had to go to the Doctor cuz he was getting headaches and they found a tumour. Who says there is no God? |

replied on: 11/18/2003 9:34:52 PM You have my sympathy. Some of us were lucky in the stepfather stakes. Don't build this resentment into something that will eat you alive. (tumour like, eh?) You shouldn't dwell on the fairy taleness of supplanted parents misery. Release those wings and fly. |

replied on: 11/19/2003 4:18:03 PM I also heard a story about Malik being bungled into a car and taken to the Merry Maker public house in Chelmsley Wood. The Merry Maker was a den of iniquity and filled with people who considered themselves "hard". Presumably only in a drug fuelled way though. Sadly they bulldozed the Merry Maker some time ago. Anyway, the "hard" punters all apparently sh*t themselves when Malik started dancing to his own tune. There was a jukebox, but he was still wearing his walkman. Not sure whether he had batteries in it or not, unfortunately I didn't manage to clarify that point when I got the story. One of the blokes then took Malik home and stood him at the end of his mum's bed (his mum, not Malik's mum). She awoke to find Malik thrashing around in her room. The chap in question then kindly dropped Malik home, which was good of him. |

replied on: 11/21/2003 1:52:03 PM It's been a weird, weird day. No sign of Mal on Bordesley Green, probably scared off by the giant inflatable santa right opposite his usual spot! However everywhere I went, and that was lots of places, I saw people imitating his stance. Ok it was mostly folk stumbling to their feet as the bus jerked them around, but spooky nonetheless. Like he's done his work and now it's up to us to carry his message to the next generation. Carry it we will! |

replied on: 11/25/2003 2:35:51 PM They're definatly ganging up on him, santa and the snowman on one side vs. Malik the other side. Although Malik seems to have gone awol again, the usual spotters have had no luck. Jj http://www.findingmalik.com/forum |

replied on: 11/27/2003 7:32:16 PM The legend is back! I saw him giving it large (no stick) at the chip shop at the Broadway.I think he may have not danced as a sacrifice during Ramadan. Today is my birthday, what a great present to see malik back on the block. |

replied on: 11/30/2003 4:12:39 PM How about having Malik switching on the Xmas lights next year? Not only would he bring light to the city but also his unique brand of street entertainment to thousands of gleaming-faced punters - some of whom would be witnessing our dynamo dancer for the first time. Does he still jiggle down the side of the Cash and Carry on Green Lane? That for me will always be Malik's spot. |

replied on: 12/1/2003 8:00:01 PM One of his brothers was in my year in the juniors and I think they lived on Palace Road at that time. Maybe since Malik tied the knot, he's been living near the Broadway. I vaguely recall Malik going missing at some point in about 1986 because our head mistress put a plea out in assembley on behalf of his brother (and presumably the rest of the family) in case we had seen him. Her description of him was something like this (not certain of the age bit) "Malik is 18...but he doesn't act like it" |

replied on: 12/1/2003 8:18:03 PM And how old are you? That should give us a chance to estimate within twenty years either side of how old he is. I believe the most popular estimate is between 50 and 60 in the finding Malik forum. Or was it 40 and 50? You get the idea. This information is important. I'm surprised he was dancing in the rain. Couldn't see him at 4-45. I would've assumed he might carry on dancing if he started during fine weather and got caught out shower wise. Unless he'd popped into the Crossover for a nice cuppa when I passed, or was on a journey somewhere and couldn't resist a few minutes providing street theatre, he must have chosen to leave the comfort of somewhere dry to get cold and wet. Now that, to me, justifies his potentially insulting monicker. In addition, I was chatting this morning to a very polite gentleman, who, after shaking my hand and engaging in small talk about the dreadful weather and sunday dinners, announced to any passing female pedestrians that he'd had a bath and then listed all the places he'd washed himself. I was pleased for him. For us. Just showed me we have lots of charming individuals following Malik's lead of refusing to conform. Good on them. But could we have them branded and tagged just in case one of them goes apeshit bonkers with a water pistol, or something? You can't be too careful. |
