Just thought I'd draw the chatarea's collective attention to the fact that our minor celebs are competing with national giants.

That connexions company (where moody teens can go to complain that no one understands them, or something) have been issuing certificates to celebrate good school attendance. For 100 percent the gold certificate is 'signed' by that genius of bad hair and "absolutely loving it": Sir Kevin of Keegan.

Dame Dawn French does the duties on the bronze, and ok, her husband once bought a pair of navy socks in Brum, so she's ok.

The silver award (95-99 % attendance, if you're interested) is graced by the hand of Shefali Oza: a blumming weather girl!! It could be argued that they've gone for someone the kids might recognise, so aforementioned kids will value the prize. What ten year old hasn't marvelled at Midlands Today's numero uno? But as for the other two, that greedy chocolate lady and some old bloke with a nasty jacket.

What I'm trying to say is they could've had their pick of the megastars, yet they let a local hero have a go, which proves she's special. Or they're dim. Shefali came above Dawn: the woman was in the Young One's, for pete's sake!

Even our most paltry faces are better than non-Brum A-listers! Shefali, you've made me so proud.

Anyone wish they hadn't started reading this? I understand connexions can help you with that new feeling of worthlessness!

It is not really fair to reward kids that have done little more than not get measles.
Some of our nippers may wag it a bit but still have a lot of talent.
Just for starters kids that are good at graffiti could have a certificate from Jill Knight.
Freaky dancing kids could have an endorsement from Malik.

Why does she get to sign attendance certificates? If all it takes to do it is talk about the weather all day and have a segmented neck, then the good schoolkids of Brum would get a signed certificate from my Nan.

Nice to see they let her read the news sometimes too. It's like watching a little girl trying on her momma's high heeled shoes. Except that she's quite good at it.

Whatever happened to the classic 'Midlands Today' line up of Kay Alexander and Alan Towers?
