| Mittonsmate Rank: Jasper | Mistress posted on: 11/27/2003 6:53:36 PM Brutal Brummie metal band featuring the two men behind the awesome Anaal Nathrakh in its line-up. Whereas A.N. is exclusively a studio project, however, Mistress are a devastating live band, even giving Napalm Death a run for their money when they supported them at the Academy last year. Self-styled "lords of everything that is wrong," their performances exude a potent belligerence, mainly due to their misanthropic vocalist, Dave C*nt, and his infamous penchant for jumping off stage and violently assaulting members of the audience. Even when not performing, he can be rather intimidating, as I discovered in Edwards one night, when I dared to question his conventional humanist reading of Nietzsche. The next thing I knew, he was counting-down from five, after which, if I wasn't out of his sight, he was going to punch my head in. Needless to say, I was out of the door by the time he reached two. I've also had one of the guitarists throw a beer bottle at me outside Scruffy Murphys, but such is the power of their music that I still remain a fan. Check-out their album, "The Chronovisor" - an angrily intense blast of pure, unbridled aggression. I reckon Peaky would love it. |

replied on: 11/29/2003 1:08:21 AM Surely kerrang! doesn't run a feature on them every week, does it? (I must admit I very rarely read it. I'm a Terrorizer man myself.) Then there's the fact that of all the pubs in Brum, they're pictured outside the Anchor - the very pub where the BiNS piss-up was held, I believe. Not a full-on cosmic giggle - just maybe a glimmer of a smile. |

replied on: 12/13/2003 2:39:52 AM There's an interview with Mistress in the latest edition of Terrorizer, in which they actually mention yours truly (but, alas, not in a particularly good way) - quote: "And they have an overly enthusiastic fan. "Yeah we have a stalker who has been to my house, knows the cars I drive, all that shit. He said he was disappointed we didn't live in a darkened cave with smoke coming out," reckons Misery reflecting on the price of fame. "I threatened to kill him once and he backed off for a while," Dave says, "but he's been spotted a few times again lately. He even tried to get a few of us to go to his house with him, F*CK THAT! Probably end up like something off King Diamond's new album..." Now while all this is undeniably factually accurate, they do seem to be putting a rather negative spin on it. Honestly, I'm completely harmless. Trust me. |

replied on: 12/13/2003 10:03:27 AM How fame changes people. Huh? They're a tad ungrateful to their truest fan. I once had a crazed stalker. Only for about ten minutes after a gig I played. The fact that he had a knife and did in fact seem crazed made the incident, though brief, memorable. And maybe I'm obsessed with fame, but there was part of me that was just glad to have my art appreciated by someone not related to me. So the members of Mistress don't live in darkened caves. That's two of us disappointed. Seems to me it's them who've got it wrong. |

replied on: 12/14/2003 11:16:20 AM The Mistress-associated extreme necro band Anaal Nathrakh have recorded a session for John Peel, to be broadcast on Tuesday 16th. Unfortunately I'm working on bastard nights next week, so I'll miss it. If any BiNS people hear it, though, I'd be interested to know what they think of it. The band are really putting Brum on the musical map these days with some of the most brutally intense music ever created. |

replied on: 12/15/2003 10:44:21 AM You don't need broadband to access the bbc recordings. Ordinary connections will take you there. Ok, the sound is appalling, it takes forever to download and then it stops every three minutes, but it's better than nothing. Stalkers can't be choosers. |

Mayhem & Mistress
replied on: 3/30/2004 12:04:41 AM Saw one of the Mistress guitarists in Scruffy's on Sunday who told me that on 7th May at the Academy, Mistress are supporting the legendary Norwegian extreme metal band Mayhem. For those of you unacquainted with the wild and whacky world of extreme metal, in 1991 the original Mayhem vocalist "Dead" blew his brains out with a shotgun. His bandmate Euronymous then proceeded to eat part of his brain and made a necklace from his shattered skull fragments. Then two years later Euronymous was murdered by a member of another Norwegian extreme metal band, Burzum. Further details can be found in the book "Lords of Chaos - The Bloody Rise of the Satanic Metal Underground" by Michael Moynihan and Didrik Soderlind. Mayhem also feature in this month's Terrorizer. The band were last in the news when someone was knocked unconscious by a pig's head that they flung into the audience (their stage set includes razor-wire across the monitors and rotting pigs' heads on poles in front of the P.A.) - so with Dave C u n t & co supporting them, it might be advisable to wear a crash helmet at the gig. Not to be missed. |

replied on: 3/30/2004 9:24:39 AM I'm all for seeing Mayhem, but Mistress just sound like a 3rd-rate carbon of Eye Hate God and Iron Monkey to me... I met Vikkernes from Burzum in Bergen, Norway once: he was a consummate fool. I hope he's enjoying pretending to be Bobby Beausoleil... |
