My apologies.
I'm afraid dropping "e's" has become something of a habit.

I don't think you can realistically compare this with the buchverbrennung. The Nazis burned books by authors they felt did not fit in with their fascist Aryan ideology. I'm asking you to delete a thread written by nobodies about nothing that nobody cares a flying f u c k about. Hardly the same, is it?

No it is exactly the same thing.

I must be a right fascist pig then because I just deleted all my old emails. Are you seriously trying to say that you never delete texts of any kind? Is your house full of old newspapers and discarded sweet wrappers because you think that if you consign them to the dustbin you will be acting as some sort of Nazi censor? Get a grip. Life is about learning to discriminate between the worthy and the worthless. Do it.

Peaky -
Has it not occurred to you that the most likely consequence of deleting the Mitton thread would be the virus-like, Hydra-headed infection of all the other threads on the site by the Mitton meme?
Surely then, from your perspective, it makes sense to maintain the Mitton thread to serve as a sort of "cyber-ghetto," where the Mitton madness can be conveniently corralled and contained.
I guess you could think of it in the same way as the police telling the landlord of the old Greyhound cider house not to ban anyone so that they could conveniently keep all the bad apples in one box, so to speak. Or perhaps a more extreme analogy might be that of a leper colony.
In any case, everybody knows by now what is happening on the Mitton thread and can simply choose not to go there if they don't like it.
Delete it, however, and no thread will be safe.

Being a Bakhtinian, I am not a fan of containment or monologism. I prefer all discourses to enter into active competition with each other (dialogism) rather than have this strange form of electronic apartheid where some voices are ghettoised. It is only then that people like you will learn the error of their ways. The voice of Mitton in your pathetic little excuse for a thread acts like some oppressive overarching metanarrative preventing any of you from having your own voice. Can't you see that?

How the hell can a discourse, quote, "enter into active competition" if it's deleted?

Incidentally, Peaky, your post indicates that you still don't realize who it is who is actually posting on the Mitton thread. I'll say no more for now and just see if you're smart enough to work it out for yourself.
No rocket science required.

If the Mitton thread is deleted, your voice will be forced to enter into a dialogue with all other voices on this site. You thus move from monologism to dialogism (see Bakhtin's 'The Dialogic Imagination'). Unless you find some other forum to pollute with your inane ramblings, that is.

Posts will not be deleted. At least not by me. In fact I do not agree with the right to delete postings by an individual if they think that a thread that they have started goes tits up.
Only the Mod should have that privilage.

I feel quite stung by your condemnation. I closed a thread that ceased to be what I wished it to be. Yes, maybe that's a little backward looking, reactionary, holding back the tide of evolution, but consider what'll happen when there're mutants wandering through YOUR bathroom at four in the morning. Progress isn't always for the best. After all English peasants in a feudal system had 80 days off a year and the right to hug churches. What've we got today? Technology, pah! Progress, pants!

My kettle's ability to heat water to a boiling temperature ceased yesterday, I'm perhaps more down on the modern age than I might've been.

I'm a mod. I have a target tattooed on my left hip (by Jo Harrison). Do I have the right to delete threads in this case?

Definitely the latter.
Nothing to do with Ariel - or even rockets for that matter. I was simply implying that Peaky was missing something pretty damn obvious about the thread.

Further speculation on this matter will neither be confirmed or denied.
