Peakie...
A very good question.
In theory I do not think any kind of censorship should exist on the net. This is of course not practical or realistic.
Children do not have the right to free speech, but they do have the right to be protected, so now we must have some form of censorship.
I do not think that the net should be used as a Tool for perpetrating illegal acts such as the distribution of child porn I am undecided if the pursuit and prosecution of nonces amounts to censorship or not but I am in favor of it.
As to such subjects of politics, religion, art etc I say no censorship. I am a member of forums where all political discussion is allowed including nazi filth and it gives me no problems. You will no doubt find loopholes in this stance.
Of course your question is impossible to answer as both arguments for and against censoring are valid if taken to extremes. In fact I am in favour of censorship, self censorship.
what are your views?

Was there not a motorcycle (made in B'ham no less) called the Ariel Rocket? Or am I barfing up the wrong tree?

Definitely the latter.
Nothing to do with Ariel - or even rockets for that matter. I was simply implying that Peaky was missing something pretty damn obvious about the thread.

Further speculation on this matter will neither be confirmed or denied.

I'm not missing anything, ****-wit. You're the only one missing something round here.

Peakie.
You are an enigma to me and I do not really know your views. On one thread you will all liberal values, on another you will be threatening to kick the crap out of some poor punter for a minor infringement of what is considered PC.
What does the real Ms Blinder think about control of the www?
I answered your question (quite badly in all probability but at least I considered what you asked), will you reciprocate please?

It was BSA that used rockets for bike names.
Road Rocket.
Rocket Gold Star.
Rocket Three.
Super Rocket.
Ariel always used equine names.
Red hunter.
Huntsmaster.
Fieldmaster.
Colt.

OK. I don't think you answered it badly at all. Like you, I believe that censorship is necessary in the case of child pornography, although I would also extend this to include extreme right-wing sites which incite hatred of any kind.

Now we've established that censorship is acceptable in certain cases, will you please delete the Mitton thread?

By the way, I'm not an enigma - I'm an intellectual thug.

The Mitton tread stays, sorry.
I think the best arguments against the far right is to let the idiots speak.
Thanks for the response.

Sorry you're right about the Beeza thing. But not quite sure about Ariels always having horsey names, i.e.
Square Four (legged friend?)
3 (legged friend?)
Arrow
Golden Arrow
NH350
Leader (or am I imagining this one too?)
Red Rum (Ditto)

Beats being over-earnest discussing censorship IMO.

Re: censorship of child pornography badbadbad.

Would it not be better to offer help to people who cannot help their sexual persuasion. Surely a glossy is better than an abused child? Surely these sites/products could offer a way to round them up and organise re-direction? So long as no one makes any money out of it.

Is that the sound of cats disturbing pigeons?

You are right that all Ariels are not named after horses.
The Leader, Arrow, Golden Arrow, pixie and Ariel 3 are not in the eyes of purists true Ariels as they were built at the BSA in the last few years of the companies history.
The first bikes produced were in fact trikes
(1898) and had a pair of winged snakes wrapped around a staff as a motif on the tank (I have this tattooed on my right arm).
In 1925 Val Page joined the company as chief designer and introduced the horse trademark.
In 1929 Ariel put the art deco horse transfer on the tank but the bikes had no reference to horses in their name apart from the Colt, a 250 lightweight in both SV and OHV versions, introduced in 1929. The designation of the larger bikes was just a model letter. I have a 1930 model G which is a 500cc OHV single.
The first use of the name Red Hunter was in 1932 for the sports 500cc single. My 350NH is in fact a 350cc Red Hunter (500cc bikes are a VH (not actualy true as there are allso other designations on 500s but lets keep it simple!)). Not all post 32 singles are Red Hunters, most notably the 350cc WNG built for the military in WW2 and the sidevalve model 600cc VB and other less sporty OHVs . There are more non RHunters but I will not bore you.
The Square four (first built in 1930 as a 500cc machine but better known as a 1000cc bike)never had any horsey pretensions (although as it was a heavy bike with excessive pulling power Cart Horse comes to mind)
The first twins(500 cc introduced in 1946 ) were known as Fieldmaster, the Sports version was known as a Red Hunter Twin and in its last few years of production it was called a huntmaster.

The latter twins were built on a BSA design and were of 650cc capacity and universally known as Huntmasters.

Many thousands of Ariel motorcycles still exist and most of them are ridden hard and often. I ride 356 days of the year.
Of course some owners are of the train spotter variety and know far to much about a very small subject.
IE.. The export version of the Huntmaster to America was called the Cyclone and had chrome mudguards.

Pravda.ru
replied on: 2/12/2004 7:27:57 PM

target=_blank>Pravda forum

It is a forum for political/social /religious discussion (mostly in English) attached to Pravda newspaper in Russia. It is probably one of the biggest bear-pits on the net.
I can not get the html to accept that the link is ok so just copy and paste.....
http://engforum.pravda.ru to the brouser bar.
Pravda is down at present (the russian language version is up and running) this is a frequent problem as it tends to get trashed by various trolls and politically challenged hackers.
