I'm a deceiver, just like the Devil.I'm not too keen on Charlie because he's wrecked my life. I see him now and again but he always requires silver.Charlie will be playing at the Rainbow,Deritend on Tuesday night so you had better get your guns cocked. He's very influenced, or so he told me, by the Reverend Gary Davis, who, although blind, travelled round New york City, carrying a Derringer. That's Mitty's animal too and he'll be in Glasgow company.

There is a grassy knoll opposite Vale-Onslow`s.
There was a shooting from there yesterday afternoon. No one hurt, the local press are not reporting it but it happened.

Apart from all that,Charlie tells me that his set went down well last night at the Rainbow and he played amongst other things, 'The National Assistance Blues'and 'Gotham City Blues, two of his postmodern blues classics. The second is a nod to the two Adrians, Mitchell and Henry, and the first to the other Adrian;Adrian, Lord of Menadine and also Sally Trench for her book, 'Bury me in my Boots'.
The Glaswegian poetess, Elizabeth Murray McGinlay* was present and pleased to see Chaz after his alcoholic sabbatical. She spoke of the possibility of him joining her in one of her inimitable 'performances', one of which she commited to the aether during the evening. It was the appearance of the revenants. Charlie had to borrow a guitar, which happened to be a 12-string, from another Glaswegian who had been living in where else but Shrewsbury. Two of the Glaswegian's combo were also from Shrewsbury and had heard of Mad Sir Jack Mytton, the eccentric drunken Shropshire landowner of the late 18thC.Synchronizing? eh!
Charlie told me that he spoke with Mickey Greaney who also showed up. Mick said that his mother agreed entirely with all the comments made about him on the BINS website. Charlie noted that he was wearing some rather jazzy denim sandals and was accompanied by his elegant and charming other half.
One of the young poets that performed mentioned Sinclair and Ackroyd and Charlie felt compelled to boast that he was a fictional character. The big jar to his consciousness however was the appearance of one Sabize, the hip-hop singer/poetess with blues and jazz influences. She did a version of 'The House of the Rising Sun' where she replaced 'New Orleans' with 'Hackney'(itself a bit of a coincidence,in the light of what has already been said on this thread).Mitty had to quiz her afterwards on just where she got her jive from. She said she had a band of session musicians who she pays and lives in Selly Oak. She went to the University where she studied sports science. She kept moving her body in a jerky way, as the kids do,when she was singing/reciting. It iced the cake of our hero's evening.

*Known as 'Zaza' some of her writing is in 'The Shakespeare Memorial Room'published by Writers without Borders.

When are we going to get back to the 23 Aetherial Synergies, the Case of the Lost Guitar and the question of the Missing Matey. Is he missing the Mitton thread now that he is virtually banned(or so he thinks he is).

I have been fascinated by this Charlie\Charles Mitton character, by the accounts of his seemingly endless embroilment in situations of synchronistic and magical complexity, and also by the strong reactions which the very mention of his name seems invariably to elicit. Unsure at first whether to believe that such a character could actually be at large in the flesh, and noticing the claim on this site that he was to make a public appearance in his capacity as blues minstrel, I took the opportunity to discover the truth. So I went to the gig and listened to Bad Boy ooze the blues. He exists. At least in some form.

By the way, continuing the 23 strand, here are some interesting facts which have perhaps been so far overlooked:

The human biorhythm cycle is 23 days.

It takes 23 seconds for blood to circulate through the human body.

Homo sapiens are given 46 chromosomes by their parents, 23 male and 23 female.

According to ancient Mayan prophesy, on December 23 2012 the world will end.

The first prime number in which both digits are prime and add up to make another prime is 23.

Hello, good evening and welcome! As Mitton's biographer (although he has wrecked my life), I have to say that it is good to at last hear from someone who has some knowledge of the 23 enigma. It was, of course first noted by William Burroughs and taken up by Robert Anton Wilson, both very popular authors of the trad avant-garde,if I might coin a phrase.Mitton first became aware of it through Stan Gooch's book, 'The Double Helix of the Mind'.Certain of the authors and artists who have been so far mentioned on the BINS site have themselves expressed interest in one form or another in the concept of synchronicity. It accords with a Nietzchean suspicion of the ultimate power of conventional science to supply all the answers to the riddle of consciousness, experience etc.Mitton's claim is that in some way he has become a site of acausal connecting phenomena. The demonstration of this has been our intention all along on this site.It has been no particular surprise that the jokily egotistical way in which this has been presented has met with such hostility.I have to say that it has felt like the venom of the mob.
Apart from Burroughs, Gooch and Wilson, other writers and spokespeople whose names have cropped up on the four Mitton threads have included Peter Ackroyd, J.G.Ballard, Graham Hancock, Chris Petit,Peter Whitehead, Rupert Sheldrake and last but not least, Iain Sinclair. The latter likes to play Devil's advocate but there is no doubt in my mind that the quite serious intentions behind Mitton's project are supported by Sinclair. The other author's have all in some way expressed an interest in synchronicity. The word itself was of course was coined by C.G. Jung and explored particularly in his work with the quantum physicist, Wolfgang Pauli.Ther have been quite a few monographs by now on the subject, one of the most readable being Brian Inglis's 'Coincidence'.There exists an alternative tradition throuhout written history which supports what I would call 'creative madness' going back to the pre-Socratics encompassing neo-Platonists,theosophists,surrealists, alchemists etc.All in some way represent a critique of post-Enlightenment belief in the ability of logic, rationality and progress through science to bring about human happiness.Mitton's birthday was on the 23rd December and it is strange that he can catalogue this magical complexity.Still, I'm only his biographer, he is sometimes to be seen around town 'the worse for wear'.I'm aware that he comes from that generation influenced by Rimbaud's call for the derangement of the senses. It's a dangerous choice of career. The idea is that the ensuing 'falling apart' or 'entropy' can provoke its opposite, magic through synchronicity or 'negentropy'.

Strange that coz just as I logged onto the site just then,I noticed that it had had 323 hits!! Yes, indeed this creative madness does of course spill over into 'postmodern'or 'poststructuralist' philosophy. I must note that some of Mr. Best's '23' references have been already noted. Particularly the cromosome one was one which was mentioned in the 'Mr. Charles Mitton' thread. the fact was discussed in Gooch's book and amazingly on page 23!!

In regard to mr. Best's contribution to the 23 list, I thought I might just throw in my oar. Mitton and Matey recently attended the "Exploring Consciousness"conference in Bath, as has been recorded on 'The New Mitton Thread' where the 'prime number' aspect of '23' was brought up by an Arsenal supporting Italian Londoner or so I'm told by Charlie. The Mayan calender date has been a bone of contention between the Kreeps since Matey thought it was the 21st because one of his heroes, Terence McKenna had said so.The other facts are of course grist to our mill.

Well done, Barri, that seems to have rid us of the ungentlemanly interlopers but just one left. This King of the Heath character seems to be a wise man, Matey says he talks a lot and likes to surround himself with acolytes. He seems to have studiously avoided the Mitton threads so far but has made this sudden appearance with a cryptic, cutting and ironical note of valediction. Well, we have n't met you so far but goodbye anyway.Catch you at the Custard Factory sometime although it employed more people when it was run by Alfred Bird.Matey says that the noise you made up there the other week was pretty average but who am I to judge not knowing anything about 'cutting edge' noise.
Judging by one or two of your contributions to this site however you are obviously someone who is 'in the know'. Your comments about 'Performance ' were spot on. Your references to Peter Whitehead and the Sinclair/Petit combo seemed however just a little flawed. I think perhaps you don't relate very well to the late sixties else you'd welcome some blues rock even if it was third rate. I do tend to the opinion that it was blues and rock and their various combinations that changed the whole ethos of the 20thC.The Muddy waters/Rolling Stones hybrid (featured on Channel4 the other night) was indeed one of the last 'grand narratives' of recent times. What we are left with is your cold sago of obscure 'cutting edge' bands, samplers, rappers and techno hipsters who are all instantly recuperated into a Falsedoggian bright new B'ham where teleology is at an end. A postmodern(that cliche again) mish-mash of post punk noise which is strictly about itself and only for its own afficianados. No more big splashes just the arse end of postmodernism.
