FAQ 8.15, A New Hope for chatting...
replied on: 9/15/2001 1:48:08 PM

Part of FAQ 8.9 "will make all channels optional."

When i read 8.9 i knew that there where going to many areas for chat. Guilds, Friends, Faction, kinda like infantry.

8.15 Will you support chat channels?

Yes. We'll have auction channels and channels for specific professions and factions (among others).

Yeah when i read this i did kinda feel jipped (not the first time hehe) but i got to thinking about it and now im excited (yes be very very afraid Blade)

They did state some pretty cool things that would be considered "New" suchs as:

Auction chat channels, professions chat channels & factions chat channels. (UO has a party system but its not very effective, if the head of the group gets disconnected the whole party is disbanded)

While this FAQ did not "surprise" me, it still is kinda cool. All these new chat auction channels will make finding weps or armor or rares easier to find and purchase or ask about prices on. Professions channels will be nice to help organize people so they can work toghether or aquire resources or even ask for assistance.

But the Faction chat channel will be the one I use the most, it will let me get toghter with fellow imperials and hunt down rebels and located them easier... with some people (BRING BACK DISGUISES) locating hidden rebel bases and fowarding thier positions to the imperial horde...

Now for something i hope the devs impliment... a WWII online style ofcommunication.

In WWII online u have several areas of chat for a the axis or the allies. U have the Wolrd chat channel, U have regional chat channel (a large square area where all the battles are taking place), the City chat channel , and the squad chat channel.

Now if SWG uses this type of system it could have Auction chat channels, professions chat channels & factions chat channels. But let the u can select the distance of the chat u want to listen into... like if dont want to hear constant chatter of the world but just want to hear if fellow people are close (say mos eisly or within a certain distance) by u then a u turn down the "Frequency" of ur communicator...

Different "Frequencies" could have diferent meanings, so that faction Galaxy chat (part of the Faction Channel) could be for general questions or game play tips, or stories or what planet has nme troop movements.

Faction chat Planet would be for planets info and directions to battles and so forth..

And faction regional planet areas would be for when ur in certain areas and want to locate people in a smaller region to a certain distance.

and then faction city chat channels.

This would prevent having 500 people in a single chat causing messages to fly so fast up people screens u would not be able to read them. By separting them into smaller chunks, they become more managable.

Use this for every type of chat channel (except squad and other small personal chat channels). It intrested in finding a extremely powerful wep or armor, go to the galatic chat of the auction channel to reach the most people. Have a vehicle? Then go to the planet chat and ask around then drive to the person. Need a wep fast? Go to the regional or city auction chat to find people selling that are close to u or in the same city as u.

This system of chats within channels would decrease downtime and make communication a lot easier.
