READ THE RULES FIRST OR NO APPROVAL FOR YOU
posted on: 7/28/2004 5:56:55 PM

Greetings, this is the Admin.

Basically, you must submit a character application before you play in the channel! To do this, please refer to the Approved Characters forum to view the Posting Rules, and we recommend that players develop a character bio based on those guidelines.

*** Important Notice for First-Timers and the Absent-Minded ***
Although we have the nifty forums, the majority, if not totality of the roleplay happens on IRC in our IRC channel. If you, for some reason, have submitted a character, or plan to submit one, but have not visited us in #GA*OOC or #Grayland*Academy, please do so. We don't bite, and the ops tend to enjoy talking to the potential RPers before, as to get to know them better. Also, this aids us operators in the event that something should happen to your submission; you are readily available to talk to, and decisions can be made.

The rules for character creation are fairly straightforward:

Rule #1 -- Don't make a GodPC. Students are enrolled in Grayland to learn how to control their powers and develop them. (Use your common sense, and if you have none, please ask a moderator for help.)

Rule #2 -- Limit yourself to at least one (1) to three (3) mutant powers/abilities; balance your character out in terms of strengths and weaknesses!

Rule #3 -- Your character doesn't -have- to be a mutant! But please, no child characters, we're really sick of people wanting to relive their childhood as prodigies. Thanks.

Rule #4 -- Please be patient! And please be nice! The moderators here are all volunteers and we don't get paid to put up with shit.

Rule #5 -- NO canon characters! This means you cannot play an established character from the Marvel Universe or any other copyrighted series or genre; and you can't play Legolas or The Darkness (The comic book character, not the band.) or some different version of Tomb Raider, or else we'll laugh long and hard at you before kicking you out. Thanks!

Rule #6 -- Certain character concepts have been overused in the past, or have proven to be problematic or incompatible with the channel's setting. These include Mafia-types, olympians, hackers, spies, government agents, covert ops, assassins, robots, cyborgs, and artificially created mutants and other lab experiments. If you are interested in playing one of these character types, please consult with the channel operators before submitting the character for approval. If it's not approved, please don't take it personally. Furthermore, please do not submit ninjas/martial arts masters, characters with magical powers, supernatural, mystical or religious entities, vampires, or characters with other undead-related powers. These types of characters will not be approved.

Rule #7 -- While character acceptance criteria is very loose, you cannot play a teacher or other staff-type character as your first character. You must have a student and have played that student for a bit before applying for a teacher or other staff-type character.

Rule #8 -- Please remember that the channel operators are also players within the channel, and are trying to enjoy themselves like everyone else. While they have a responsibility to administrate the channel, they cannot and will not devote all of their time and energy chasing after delinquent characters and keeping them in line. Characters who cause inordinate amounts of trouble may be expelled from the school IC, and retired from play OOC.

Rule #9 -- Grayland Academy is a private institution, and all students attend on a voluntary basis. The Academy does not accept students transferred from social agencies or the criminal justice system, and is not equipped to rehabilitate "problem" students. Students are not permitted to bring drugs, alcohol, weapons, lockpicks, explosives, or other items of questionable legality onto campus. Any such items will be confiscated, and students in possession of them may face additional disciplinary measures.

Once your character has been approved by three (3) ops or more, ONLY then will your bio be moved to the appropriate Approved Characters section. You cannot post in the Approved section without bypassing the Submission procedure first!

Please include your character's NAME and CODE NAME in the subject heading of your character post. Like this:

FirstName LastName (CodeName)

We will IGNORE any post subject along the lines of "New Character" or "Character Submission" or anything without a NAME on it. And don't worry, we'll be able to tell if it's a character bio or not, so you don't have to put (bio) or (my char) or (GA char submit) on it, because THIS FORUM IS ALREADY DESIGNATED FOR CHAR BIOS.

We HIGHLY recommend that you visit the channel for more information regarding the Grayland Academy game! Please refer to website for instructions on how to join us on IRC.

AFTER APPROVAL!! WHEE!!
After your character's approved, feel free to jump right in and RP away to your heart's content! Just know that with approval, comes the following given knowledge: Your student character has been issued a Grayland ID, and orientated to the appropriate dorms. Faculty are aware of the student and have all the necessary history/dna/mutant/whathaveyou info on-file as to best deal with said student IF something happens. Usually nothing happens. Orientation as far as what buildings are what and where is usually left up to other students and faculty as to create friendly bonds and whatnot.

Please feel free to begin RPing at this point, and not simply showing up with a duffle bag and knocking at the gates at all hours of the night; the campus security and faculty aren't keen on it, and it tends to be tedious RP for all. Jump in! Most of the students don't bite!

If you have any questions regarding your bio or the submission process, please post to this forum (but not under this particular thread).

Thank you for staying with us, and please enjoy yourself!
