I've seen many texts on the net that use various alcohols, thats only to speed up the drying process right? also, does anyone know the equation for the synthesis of hmtd and its products after combustion. I've done some searches but have had no luck in finding them Thanks |

replied on: 3/23/2004 12:10:10 AM just wash it with maybe... 200 ml 10% baking soda solution for every 20 grams you have. Acid makes it more unstable because it aids in the decomposition. However, I've found that for AP and HMTD, it mainly depends on crystal size, the longer you let the solution sit, the bigger the crystal size is. Yes, alcohol speeds drying, but I think HTMD might dissolve in some alcohols... I'm not sure though. Here's an image for the reaction of hexamine and H2O2, from the Chemistry of Powders and Explosives: if you cant see it, try using internet explorer. |
