What would happen? Would it crack that thick of glass? What about steel or other really strong metel? Is the freezing process that powerful??? Thanks for any response. :-) Nick |

At the beginning of theuniverse everthing was situated in a tiny position andit was unbeleivably hot. Then it banged the big bang. The point I am trying to make is that all the substances of the universe were once squashed into a tiny position proving that everything can be compressed. |

Jordan14 is correct, everything can be compressed but i believe your question was more on the chemical structure side of the house. As you know water is H2O meaning that it has 2 Hydrogen atoms and 1 Oxygen atom. H-O-H The Hydrogen atoms hold on to the oxygen atom because of the differences of the electrons in the outer shell, however they are not compleatly happy even connected to the oxygen atom and reach out to make Hydrogen bonds between other mols of water. When water melts the vibration of the mols gets strong enuf to break these bonds and the ice turns into a liquid. When frozen they make rings of six usually, leaving a space in the center of the circle. This space causes expansion as no matter exixts there. This is what causes water to crystalize and expand at freezing unlike most liquids. Sometimes these rings are incomplete or not stacked parallel |/-- |--vs ||| ||| And can be packed. The next step is nuclear fusion making the atoms combine and if enuf of thoes get together they will lose there electrons and become a black dwarf then a black hole. |
