Help Defeat Human Aging
posted on: 8/19/2004 11:43:14 PM

I would like to inform you of an effort to combat aging on an international level, which may interest you enough to contribute to it. The Methuselah Foundation (http://www.methuselahfoundation.org), headed by such illustrious and world-renowned individuals as the Cambridge University biogerontologist, Dr. Aubrey de Grey, and the entrepreneur David Gobel, has organized a prize fund to reward scientists who discover radical life-extension treatments for mice; the publicity and expertise generated by this effort can be expected to be applied toward a real cure to human aging within thirty years. The Methuselah Mouse Prize is modeled after numerous historically successful prizes for scientific research, discovery, and exploration, including the recent X Prize, which had stimulated the development of the first private spacecraft. Already, contributions have been substantial, and five teams of world-renowned scientists are competing for the prize. David Gobel estimates that prizes have historically produced $50 of investment for every 1 dollar in a prize, and the Methuselah Mouse Prize is already stimulating substantial research and investment. There are currently two prize funds offered: the Postponement Prize, for prolonging the lifespan of mice, and the Reversal Prize for the best late-onset life extension intervention. You can learn more about the prize structure at http://www.methuselahmouse.org/structure.php.

The science behind this endeavor is extensively discussed by Dr. Aubrey de Grey on his site devoted to Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence (SENS): http://www.gen.cam.ac.uk/sens/. I strongly encourage you to investigate all of these resources because I am confident that you will be convinced of the worthiness of this endeavor. I have myself donated $50.00 to the Methuselah Mouse Prize due to my compelling interest in expediting the cure for human aging. Any of your support will be sincerely appreciated.

There are two ways to make a donation to the Methuselah Foundation:

1. Donate online via credit card. Go to http://www.methuselahmouse.org/donate.php to do so. Contributions can be made by filling out the fields on the donation page; when you click "Donate" you will be taken to WorldPay, the world's leading payment provider, to enter credit card details. The amount that you donate, together with your name unless you indicate that you wish to remain anonymous, will appear in the Foundation's roll-call of Donors to the Methuselah Mouse Prize: http://www.methuselahfoundation.org/MMPDonors.asp. You will receive automatic email notification that the Methuselah Foundation has received your donation.

2. Send a check payable to "The Methuselah Foundation" to the following address:

The Methuselah Foundation
9131 Stone Garden Drive
Lorton, VA 22079
USA

Please indicate in a note enclosed with the check, or in the check's memo section, the prize to which you would like the donation applied (PP or RP), and whether you would like the donation to be with attribution or anonymous.

I am working in the capacity of a volunteer for the Methuselah Foundation, seeking to inform individuals of this effort and to inspire their contributions. My ultimate goal is to bring about $5,000 in donations through my efforts. Please visit the site of the Chicago Methuselah Foundation Fund, the endeavor I have launched for this purpose. http://www.geocities.com/chicagomethuselahfund/index.html

If you donate to the Methuselah Mouse Prize, you will receive official recognition on the Methuselah Foundation's list of donors. If you have been introduced to the Foundation through my efforts, please contact me at gennadystolyarovii@yahoo.com, and I shall give you public recognition on my site as well.

Your questions and discussions of this endeavor are welcome.

I am
G. Stolyarov II
