Is Time directional?
replied on: 2/8/2005 1:27:57 PM Perhaps Time is very much like we think space is? My feeling about "directional" implies to me that time is linear, whereas we know the universe is not, don't we? Time being "directional" in that sense, just doesn't sit right with me. I can only offer my intuition there! I've heard that the universe might be shaped like a ball, a donut? Then perhaps time is woven like that too? Perhaps you could travel through time and visit any amount of different futures, pasts and presents? I used to think that our universe was only three dimensions in space and one in time. We can observe all three dimensions in space. But we can only indirectly observe time as the fourth. With String Theory, presumably the first three we know, are included in the eleven? That means we can't "see" these other eight. And are all these other eight, in space, time or both? Oh dear, I hope you're not overstocked with questions! Mark Willis |

replied on: 5/12/2006 11:36:02 AM According to the special theory of relativity, in the high-speed particle's frame of reference, it exists for the same amount of time as usual, and the distance it travels in that time is what would be expected for that velocity. |
