| MatrixEvolutions Quote | Reply | | Answers about the School Strike Against the War posted on: 1/22/2007 3:25:49 PM Two questions, two answers. I’ll try to be brief. First the problem. What intuition suggests, a technical analysis makes very clear, a violent world approaching the critical point. You don’t have to be argued into this or you wouldn’t have written to begin with. The most I could add to your common sense understanding of the problem is that the technical indicators say the problem is extreme and a near term one. Be scared and assume I’m not Chicken Little as an entry point to this discussion. Second, the solution. This is much harder to see. The school strike was a product of our imaginations and a lot of discussion as to other possibilities, which came up, empty realistically. Would I rather college students? Of course! By feel and our collective experience, though, it’s not possible and the impact would be minimal. High school students preferable? Certainly. That was our focus in Desert Hot Springs. But grade school kids with parents keeping them home is powerful also. At what cost? I am PhD, science, masters, childhood education, home taught five kids. The cost is minimal at either level, trust me. I’m neither cruel nor crazy. What else could work? A work strike? Money, money, money rules here and says no. Now, when I say, got a better idea? I am not shoving it back in your face. Two days a week I like to think I’m a genius. Yet, short of us all attacking The White House with baseball bats in our hand, not recommended, I can’t think of any other way to make a statement that would have any meaningful impact on the people who control our Armed Forces. Our plan then? Let us all with yaps to open, open them wide and get the idea of a school strike off to as many people as possible. My guess is that it’s got a good chance of working, the details to be tinkered with as we proceed. As I said, I’m much more sure of the problem than I am of the solution. It’s major death coming up. That’s the premise that is important to accept. It you’re starving, you’ll make a great effort to eat. We’re on the verge of starvation. Get worried. Then tell me how you would broadcast the idea to everybody in the U.S. Or, got a better idea? Or relax and tell yourself I’m Chicken Little. Don’t mean to be rude. One very true statement quoted me by a wise philosopher: “Reality is quite a bit like the Matrix”, no matter what they say on “The Today Show” every morning. It’s corollary is that the time of the human race is short, unless we all get very very worried about our nuclear starvation, and begin to do the dramatic things that are necessary to avoid it.
