The rumours about the movie have been circulating for weeks. Fox Studios officials, while confirming they are talking with two US studios about upcoming productions, have yet to make any official announcement. The fifth big-screen Superman will be directed by McG, best known for his Charlie's Angels films, with British actor Henry Cavill tipped to play the man of steel. American star Depp is strongly rumoured to be McG's choice for the villainous Lex Luthor, while internet movie sites have been reporting that local star ROSE BYRNE and American actress Selma Blair are vying for the role of Lois Lane. Byrne's agent, however, said any Superman discussions had yet to take place. Shooting for Superman V would commence later in the year, with a release date of mid-2006 planned by the Warner Bros studio. It would be a major boost after concerns Australia was losing its sheen as an offshore Hollywood because of the rising dollar and strong new competition for cost-effective locations from countries such as New Zealand, South Africa and the Czech Republic. |

The Willliam Morris Agency confirmed these rumours are just speculation and no approach has been made. 'Not true and as far as I know there have been no auditions for the part.' They added it's the first time they've heard of this rumor and that WMA are currently seeking new parts for Rose. You'll next see her alongside Brad Pitt in Troy (May) and then Wicker Park with Josh Hartnett (September). 11/2/04 ROSE BYRNE WB's CHOICE FOR LOIS? Moviehole are reporting that Australian actress Rose Byrne is the studios choice for the role of Lois Lane after impressing in Wolfgang Petersesn's WB produced Troy. Extra weight is added to this story by the fact that she has starred opposite Man of Steel lead contender Henry Cavill in I Capture the Castle and the fact that Superman could be heading for Fox Studios in Sydney.
