While Kirsten Dunst will play the Austrian-born French queen, Davis plays the queen's lady in waiting. Known as "Madame Etiquette" due to her penchant for proper courtly behaviour, the countess handed in her resignation in 1781 -- 12 years before her boss lost her head. Other co-stars in the Columbia Pictures production include Jason Schwartzman as Louis XVI, Rip Torn as Louis XV, Marianne Faithfull as Maria-Teresa and Rose Byrne as Polignac. |

And it looks as though Australia's Rose Byrne will be right among the action. Byrne, who memorably shared a bed with Brad Pitt in Troy, is one of the leading ladies in the cast of Marie-Antoinette the epic film being directed by Oscar-winner Sofia Coppola. Sources close to Byrne have confirmed the actor is on her way to France to play one of the leading roles in the new Coppola film, which is expected to be one of the biggest releases of the year in 2006. American star Kirsten Dunst has been lined up to play the lead role of Marie-Antoinette, but Byrne is expected to play a significant role in the film as one of Antoinette's companions. It is yet another indicator 25-year-old Byrne is now firmly entrenched in Hollywood's A-list, after her appearances in big-name blockbusters including Troy and Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones. Although her role as Natalie Portman's handmaiden was brief in the George Lucas film, there are fan websites dedicated to Byrne's appearance. The actor's delicate features are perfect for the period costumes being used in Marie-Antoinette. The film project is a huge creative shift for Coppola, who won an Oscar for her moving modern screenplay for Lost In Translation. Byrne is likely to be on set for Marie-Antoinette for a couple of months. |
