Rose to star in CASANOVA ?
replied on: 10/16/2004 12:37:16 AM 14 October 2004 The Age The ladies' man's lady Australian actor Rose Byrne has landed a starring role in a British drama, Casanova, starring big-screen legend Peter O'Toole. The three-part series, being produced by Red Production Company from scripts by Russell T. Davies, will screen on the BBC late next year. David Tennant plays the infamous 18th century character as a young man who travels across Europe, much of it as a fugitive from offences against the state and church. O'Toole takes over as the older Casanova, reliving his adventures to a fellow servant, Edith, played by Byrne. Davies wrote the script after reading Casanova's 12-volume autobiography and relished the chance to set straight the story of the "serial shagger". "He's been filtered down through the centuries as a bastard," Davies says. "I wanted to rescue him, to show what he was really like. This man genuinely loved women, and respected them with an astonishingly modern mentality." |
