Rose's US agent changes companies
replied on: 10/23/2004 3:55:45 AM WMA agents on the move; Unclear exactly when Queally will leave Daily Variety 20 October 2004 Two agents are exiting William Morris -- Hylda Queally to CAA and Jason Barrett to start a management/production shingle. Queally's client list includes Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett, Liv Tyler, William Hurt, Chazz Palminteri, Rose Byrne ("Troy") and Keri Russell ("The Upside of Anger"). This reps the first major talent agent defection since Patrick Whitesell left CAA for Endeavor nearly four years ago. It's unclear exactly when Queally will leave, as time remains on her current contract. "We wish Hylda the best in her new endeavors and extend our appreciation for her years of service to the William Morris Agency," said a spokesman for the tenpercentery. Born in Ireland, Queally launched a talent agency in her own country before she moved to the States in 1989 to join Arnold Rifkin at Triad Artists. WMA purchased Triad in 1992. Barrett, meanwhile, has already set his first project in a deal with Revolution Studios. "Heartland" is a fish-out-of-water comic vehicle for LL Cool J, who will be among several WMA clients joining Barrett as a management client. "Swimfan" star Jesse Bradford has also signed on for management. Barrett started his career in the ICM mailroom, and was brought over to WMA when Jim Wiatt left ICM. He was an agent for three-plus years at each place. At the William Morris Agency, he helped LL Cool J make the transition from hip-hop to acting and repped the likes of Shane West, Russell, Gabrielle Union, Ryan Kwanten, James McAvoy and Steven Seagal. He helped package such films as "Deliver Us From Eva," "Swimfan" and the upcoming "Edison," which stars Morgan Freeman, LL Cool J, Kevin Spacey and Justin Timberlake. That experience sparked his producing ambitions. Barrett will remain involved with some of his agency clients, Seagal included. The exact management roster is now being sorted out. In "Heartland," LL Cool J plays an inner-city teacher who, as a favor to an old friend, takes over a fifth-grade class at a school in the Midwest. Revolution's Todd Garner and Derek Dauchy will supervise, and Barrett will produce with the rapper-thesp. |
