| Xarn Yer Daddy! Quote | Reply | | Gods: The Yog-Sothery posted on: 3/1/2003 8:21:46 AM The Yog-Sothery is a collective term applied to a wide variety of gods, each of them alien in the extreme. They originally came from a distant plane known only as the Far Realm, but set up camp on Altria long before any life developed there. Over time, they've had great influence on the development of life and culture on Altria, but after some difficulties, Xarn banned them from Altria altogether. Now, they are nearly forgotten. Azathoth Divine Rank: N/A (Overpower) Portfolio: Insanity, death Tentacle slam Domains: None Alignment: CE Favored Weapon: Tentacle slam Home Plane: Far Realm Undisputed master of all of the gods of the Yog-Shotery, Azathoth, the blind, idiot daemon sultan, possesses power on par with Xarn and the Lady of Pain. It took the combined power of these two Overpowers to forever ban Azathoth from the Great Wheel and cast him back into the Far Realm, whence he sprang. He cares naught for the Great Wheel, though, and is happy spending his days listening to his mad pipers and drummers. THE FALSE GODS The False Gods are so called because they were not always gods, but started out as lesser minions, often spawn of Shub-Niggurath. Cthulhu Divine Rank: 5 (Demigod) Portfolio: Insanity, loyalty Domains: None Alignment: CE Favored Weapon: Tentacle slam Home Plane: Material Plane Great Cthulhu is one of the few deities of the Yog-Shotery remaining on the Material Plane. He lies sleeping in the sunken city of R'lyeh, which he constructed millions of years before the creation of the first life. Xarn allows him to remain, mostly because he doesn't have the power to remove him, or the will to risk another Godswar because of it. Father Dagon Divine Rank: 2 (Demigod) Portfolio: Deep ones, ocean Domains: None Alignment: CE Favored Weapon: Longspear Home Plane: Material Plane Father Dagon once was a common deep one, spawned by Shub-Niggurath. He grew powerful over the years, though, and ascended to godhood. Now he guards the sunken city of R'lyeh, never moving from the territory laid out to him by Xarn. Mother Hydra Divine Rank: 2 (Demigod) Portfolio: Deep ones, ocean Domains: None Alignment: CE Favored Weapon: Longspear Home Plane: Material Planes The female counterpart to Father Dagon, Mother Hydra is in all ways identical to her significant other. Tsathoggua Divine Rank: 4 (Demigod) Portfolio: Magic, ancient lore Domains: None Alignment: NE Favored Weapon: Slam Home Plane: Far Realm God of dholes, Tsathoggua was responsible for the fact R'lyeh disappeared beneath the waves in the first place. Lately, he hasn't seen much action, though, as there is no way for his worshippers to reach him, even through prayer. THE GREAT OLD ONES The Great Old Ones are true gods. They have always been gods, and have been produced by Azathoth himself. Though they are technically subject to him, they sometimes choose to disobey him, and usually get away with it. Chaugnar Faugn Divine Rank: 3 (Demigod) Portfolio: Unknown Domains: None Alignment: CE Favored Weapon: Slam Home Plane: Material Plane Appearing like a type of large elephantine creature, Chaugnar Faugn is thought to be resting in a temple somewhere on Casseran, indistinguishable from a stone idol. Cthugha Divine Rank: 3 (Demigod) Portfolio: Burning things, pyromania Domains: None Alignment: CE Favored Weapon: Slam Home Plane: Far Realm Cthugha was once worshipped by pyromaniacs and fire wizards. Now, he has naught but his slew of fire vampire worshippers in the Far Realm. Eihort Divine Rank: 1 (Demigod) Portfolio: Unknown Domains: None Alignment: CE Favored Weapon: Slam Home Plane: Far Realm A god of many legs, Eihort is an enigma. Nobody knows what his purpose was, if any, or who worshipped him. This only adds to the mystery surrounding the Yog-Sothery. Glaaki Divine Rank: 1 (Demigod) Portfolio: Ocean, creation Domains: None Alignment: CN Favored Weapon: Slam Home Plane: Far Realm An ocean deity, Glaaki left with Azathoth after the Godswar. Presumably, this didn't happen out of free will, but Xarn would have had little reason to remove the near harmless (insofar as any member of the Yog-Sothery can be harmless) deity. Ithaqua Divine Rank: 3 (Demigod) Portfolio: Storm, ice, cold Domains: None Alignment: CE Favored Weapon: Slam Home Plane: Far Realm Ithaqua, a deity of blizzards, was the patron deity of the gnoph-keh, who led the human race into conquest of Altria, right before they were exterminated by irate shadow elves. Now, Ithaqua's power has diminished. Mordiggian Divine Rank: 2 (Demigod) Portfolio: Ghouls, war, necrophilia Domains: None Alignment: N Favored Weapon: Slam Home Plane: Far Realm The charnel god, Mordiggian used to roam battlefields, searching for dead and undead, devouring them both for some unknown reason. He was the patron deity of ghouls. Now, he sits in his realm, sulking. Shudde M'Ell Divine Rank: 1 (Demigod) Portfolio: Cthonians, earth Domains: None Alignment: CN Favored Weapon: Tentacle rake Home Plane: Far Realm The weakest of the Yog-Shotery, Shudde M'Ell was once the patron deity of cthonians and, to a lesser extent, other things that burrowed deep into the earth. Now, however, he just burrows into the vastness of the Far Realm, and is sad. Y'Golonac Divine Rank: 1 (Demigod) Portfolio: Unknown Domains: None Alignment: CE Favored Weapon: Slam Home Plane: Far Realm A deity bizzare in both motives and appearance, Y'Golonac was infamous for his ability to possess mortals pretty much at will, turning them into mindless slaves or horrid, evil abominations. Yig Divine Rank: 3 (Demigod) Portfolio: Snakes and snake-like beings Domains: Animal, Evil, Knowledge Alignment: NE Favored Weapon: Bite Home Plane: Material Plane Though his power has now decreased substantially, Yig remains on the Material Plane. Though the serpent race he created is now extinct, he now serves as a deity to Yuan-ti and similar creatures. He resides on Casseran, and is doing quite well for himself. THE OUTER GODS The Outer Gods are the most powerful of the Great Old Ones. They are called Outer Gods because they all reside in the Far Realm, their original home. They don't care for affairs on the Material Plane, and barely realize the humanoid races even exist. Hastur Divine Rank: 16 (Greater Deity) Portfolio: Insanity, time Domains: None Alignment: CE Favored Weapon: Slam Home Plane: Far Realm The King In Yellow is perhaps the greatest danger to the Great Wheel, for he had foreseen the Godswar, and had taken steps to secure his own power. If his name is spoken three successive times, there is a small chance he is summoned to whoever spoke his name. This contingency was minor enough to slip under Xarn's watch, and could effectively break his ward, as the contingency was set up when Hastur was still Xarn's near equal in sheer power. So far, of course, he has had no luck, and it doesn't look like he ever will, as almost everyone has forgotten the name of Hastur. Nyarlathotep Divine Rank: 15 (Intermediate Deity) Portfolio: Trickery, magic, madness Domains: None Alignment: CE Favored Weapon: Dagger Home Plane: Far Realm Though Nyarlathotep once acted as an intermediator between the lesser races and the Yog-Sothery, he now spends his days as Azathoth's advisor. Of course, as the daemon sultan is barely conscious, his job isn't really that hard. Shub-Niggurath Insanity, nature, life Tentacle slam Far Realm CoC Divine Rank: 13 (Intermediate Deity) Portfolio: Insanity, nature, life Domains: None Alignment: CN Favored Weapon: Tentacle slam Home Plane: Far Realm A mindless deity, Shub-Niggurath's body continuously spawns and absorbs new creatures of every description. It is thought she is responsible for much of Altria's current biological diversity. She is currently being worshipped again, though she cannot grant spells, of course, due to Xarn's wards. Yog-Sothoth Divine Rank: 13 (Intermediate Deity) Portfolio: Insanity, magic, travel Domains: None Alignment: N Favored Weapon: Tentacle slam Home Plane: Far Realm The deity that gave the Yog-Sothery its name, Yog-Sothoth once guarded the fabric of space-time itself, ensuring each part had just the right number of dimensions. Of course, these days, his power has greatly waned, and he spends his day... well, existing, I guess. |
